EU orders consumer warning labels on goods produced in Israeli occupied lands

from RT

The European Commission has adopted new guidelines on labeling of products from Israeli-occupied Arab settlements. Brussels says the move is technical but Israel has called it discriminatory.

The European Commission “adopted this morning the Interpretative Notice on indication of origin of goods from the territories occupied by Israel since June 1967,” Reuters quoted an EU official as saying.

EU Ambassador to Israel Lars Faaborg-Andersen was called to the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem to be reprimanded over the decision, Haaretz reports.

“Whereas the upcoming labeling guidelines are presented by the EU as a purely ‘technical measure’ designed to protect European consumers, there is no doubt that the main purpose of the measure is to exert political pressure upon Israel,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry said prior the EU decision.

“These measures are discriminatory in nature. It is intolerable that Israel is the only country that has been singled out by the EU for such a policy, despite the fact that there are over 200 disputed territories worldwide,” the statement added.

This move shouldn’t come as a surprise to Israel, US State Department Deputy spokesman Mark Toner said on Tuesday before the ruling was published.

“Israel continues to expand settlement activity. It should not come as a surprise that some in the international community seek to limit commercial ties to the settlements. This underscores the urgent need for Israel to change its policies with regard to settlements,” he said, quoted by the Jerusalem Post.

Deconstructing Kyle Kulinski’s and Sam Harris’ “ISIS™” Disinformation

by Scott Creighton

“ISIS™” in Iraq is nothing more than a pre-text creating the narrative for a FID or Foreign Internal Defense campaign

The other day Sam Harris went on some obscure YouTube channel “news” outlet called the Rubin Report and said that it was “delusional” to think President Bush’s illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq gave rise to “ISIS™”

His reasoning, if you want to call it that, was that “fundamentalist Islam” existed long before our (illegal) invasion and therefore something like “ISIS™” was bound to crop up eventually in the Baathist nation.

Along comes someone named Kyle Kulinski on his obscure YouTube “news” channel too say that Sam is missing the point and that he’s absolutely wrong about  “ISIS™” being caused by the (illegal) invasion (curious how both Harris and Kulinski continually forget to mention the illegal aspect of the Iraq invasion and occupation)

It should be noted that Kyle Kulinski is a construct of another fake left disinformation peddler, Cenk Uygur.

However, while Kulinski does that, he peppers in so much disinformation and self-contradictory BS, he completely convolutes the essential lesson to be learned from “ISIS™” and Iraq and Syria as a whole leaving his “secular progressive” audience with the distinct impression that we are right and just to be fighting “ISIS™”

In short, Fox “News” couldn’t have done it better and in fact, Fox “News” couldn’t have done it at all with his audience of “secular progressives”, hence the controlled opposition function he performs is served.

In order to expose this clown for what he is, I’ve decided to take his little video point by point and show you exactly what he’s doing and how he’s twisting the facts in order to preserve the sanctity of the Global War OF Terror via his rather extravagant  “ISIS™” disinformation.

Let’s get started, shall we?

Israeli President Says Illegal Occupation of Palestine “is a basic fact of modern Zionism” and he Loves It

(And there you have it)

from Yahoo News

President Reuven Rivlin said during talks with settler leaders on Monday that Israel had a “right” to build settlements in the occupied West Bank, his office said in a statement.

“I love the land of Israel with all my heart. I have never and will never give up on this land. For me, our right to this land is not a matter of political debate. It is a basic fact of modern Zionism,” Rivlin said,

For Rivlin the “land of Israel” includes the occupied West Bank where Jewish settlements are considered illegal under international law.

Israeli settlements using Palestinian child labour, report says

by Robert Tait, Telegraph

Palestinian children as young as 11 are being employed under dangerous conditions in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank in breach of international law, a human rights group said on Monday.

Hundreds of child labourers are working in farms and agricultural businesses in the strategically sensitive Jordan Valley for just £13 a day, according to a new report from Human Rights Watch, which documented cases of young people suffering work-related ill health and injuries.

The 74-page report, Ripe For Abuse: Palestinian Child Labour in Israeli Agricultural Settlements in the West Bank, says economic hardship is forcing some children to drop out of school to work in the farms to support their families.

Under Cover of Flight MH17, Israel Begins Ground Assault

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he has instructed the country’s military to begin a ground offensive in Gaza, Reuters reports.

More from the Associated Press:

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Thousands of Israeli soldiers backed by tanks invaded the Gaza Strip on Thursday, a military spokesman said, escalating a 10-day military operation to try to destroy Hamas’ weapons arsenal, rocket firing abilities and tunnels used to send militants from the Palestinian territory into Israel.

The high-stakes move was compelled by Israel’s growing exasperation over unrelenting rocket fire and followed the collapse of Egyptian-led efforts to broker a cease-fire. It also came after a failed attempt by 13 militants to infiltrate Israel earlier Thursday through a tunnel under the Gaza-Israel border, only to be stopped by an Israeli strike at the mouth of the tunnel.

The military said the first major Israeli ground offensive in Gaza in just over five years was open-ended and would be carried out on several fronts in the coastal strip.

“Our forces, large ground forces accompanied by massive air force support, naval forces and intelligence, are taking over targets in Gaza, operating against tunnels and terror activists and infrastructure,” Israel’s chief military spokesman Brig. Gen. Motti Almoz said.

He called on Gaza residents to evacuate areas where the military is operating, warning the “military is operating there with very great force.”

Amb. Dermer’s Twitter Focus Group Study Goes Straight to Hell in a Hand-basket

by Scott Creighton

(Here is some more of that “rhetoric” you were talking about Lilaleo)

Everything is marketing in the eyes of today’s glorious corporatist/fascist leaders. They are constantly holding focus groups and running polls in order to get a feel of how the public perceives their machinations. It’s not so they can plot policy around public opinion… oh no. That would be democracy and that isn’t allowed. It’s so they can gauge the effectiveness of their propaganda and spin; so they can better understand how effectively they have controlled the message.

To that end the Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer held a live “AskDermer” Twitter feed this morning and something tells me it didn’t go so well for him.

Surely they made sure to have all their paid college age shills standing by at the ready on their keyboards with all their talking points on a cheat sheet ready for the copy and paste war that was to follow.

Didn’t do ’em any good. Civil society showed up. People with a conscience showed up. People not on the Israeli payroll showed up and in the end, the fiasco did more harm than good to the Israeli PR machine knows as the Megaphonies (H/T Mike Rivero)

Get a load of some of these tweets.

Price of the average college shill – $2,000. Price of PR in the EU – 2 million. Watching Dermer get raked over the coals by real human beings – priceless.
