Lindsey Graham Goes All In for Dream Act Cheap Labor and Cannon Fodder: “if you aren’t for it, I don’t want your vote”

by Scott Creighton

I have come to understand that Comprehensive Immigration Reform is absolutely essential for our national security (cannon fodder) and our economic viability (cheap labor)Lindsey Graham

Lindsey Graham has come out for the Dream Act in a big way saying to South Carolina republicans “if you aren’t for it, I don’t want your vote

“To the people who object to this, I don’t want you to vote for me because I cannot serve you well” Lindsey Graham

I guess Lindsey understands how totally rigged the election system in South Carolina is so he’s not actually worried about being voted out of office for throwing down the gauntlet on a subject his base is totally opposed to. If you would like to know more about the election rigging in South Carolina, feel free to read my coverage of the Alvin Greene story.

That’s the length the South Carolina Democratic Party went to in order to make sure the REPUBLICAN won. And that was in 2010. So all these folks talking about how the Dems don’t WANT to win if a centrist corporate doesn’t represent their party… well, those folks are only about 7 YEARS behind. The Alvin Greene case made that shit perfectly clear.

But anyway, moving on…

Lindsey delivered a little monologue yesterday in which he made it very clear that President Trump could, if he wanted to, convince his dedicated base that the Dream Act of 2017 is the right thing to do.

“What has changed? You have a president who could in a snap of his fingers get the Republican Party united more than Bush could – persuade people who feel threatened by illegal immigrants that they’re going to take their jobs and commit crimes against their family and persuade them that this is a fair thing to do unlike President Obama was able to do. What has changed? A man in the White House who could take the people who object the most and with a coherent, from-the-heart speech change everything,” Lindsey Graham

Lindsey seems to have a pretty high opinion of Trump’s powers of persuasion. Thinks The Donald could simply “snap his fingers” and folks who have opposed this measure for the past 12 years or so would suddenly “see the light” and embrace cheap labor for Big Business and cannon fodder for the war machine like a social justice warrior embraces an androgynous latte master at Starbucks.

Oh… you don’t know about the “cannon fodder” and “cheap labor” thingies? Well then, let me explain…

Graham described why he’s enthusiastic about supporting the DREAM Act of 2017.

“I’m excited about giving you a chance to live the rest of your life in America. I’m excited about taking this burden off your back. I am. I embrace you. I want you to succeed. Many of you will go into the military and some of you may die. Many of you will create jobs,” he said. “Start businesses. Do big things. Most of you will do the small things well.”

Folks forget that Comprehensive Immigration Reform was not an Obama program. Sure he pushed it with his left-cover and the fake left, the corporate left, took it up and ran with it AS IF it were the humanitarian thing to do. But it wasn’t. It never was about doing the “humanitarian” thing anymore than our “humanitarian intervention” in Libya was about helping people.

Now that the midterm “elections” are officially over, the real work of neo-liberalizing this country begins with a vengeance. We saw that two days ago when they tried to pass the Keystone Pipeline bill and the new CISPA, the USA “Freedom” Act.

This evening, Barack Obama is going to give a speech in which he will lay out his end-around plan to side-step congress in order to implement much of the George W. Bush Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 that failed back when he was in office. Scott Creighton, 2014

Fact is, Comprehensive Immigration Reform and the DREAM ACT wasn’t an Obama agenda… it was a holdover from the Good Old Bush Days. That’s what Graham was talking about when he said that Bush couldn’t get it done, but Trump could.

The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 (full name: Secure Borders, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Reform Act of 2007 (S. 1348)) was a bill discussed in the 110th United States Congress that would have provided legal status and a path to citizenship for the approximately 12 million undocumented immigrants residing in the United States. The bill was portrayed as a compromise between providing a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and increased border enforcement: it included funding for 300 miles (480 km) of vehicle barriers, 105 camera and radar towers, and 20,000 more Border Patrol agents, while simultaneously restructuring visa criteria around high-skilled workers. The bill also received heated criticism from both sides of the immigration debate.

Who here thinks the Republican Party (actually put forward by John McCain, Arlen Specter, Lindsey Graham and George W. Bush way back when) gives a shit about young brown people coming in from Mexico? Raise your hands. Go ahead. We’re waiting.

Truth is, Comprehensive Immigration Reform and the DREAM ACT (and the DREAM ACT was a creation of the Republicans… NOT ObamaGod) is about securing legal cheap labor and FORCING young people, young brown people, to enlist in the military.

“What?!?” you say? That’s racist talk.

Actually, no it isn’t.

Look at what Lindsey just said yesterday:

  • Most of you will do the small things well (cheap labor for Big Business)
  • Many of you will go into the military and some of you may die. (cannon fodder)

Now let’s look at what the 2007 Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill and the DREAM ACT says:

The bill contained within it the entirety of the DREAM Act, a bill that has been introduced unsuccessfully several times in the House and Senate, that would provide a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants brought into the country as minors who either go to college or serve in the U.S. military

That’s right. If you get into college… GREAT. Good for you.

However… if you don’t… cannon fodder.

There is no middle ground. You either get accepted into a school (low chances there) or you sign up and go to war… and as Lindsey sees it… that true humanitarian he is… Many of you will go into the military and some of you may die.

Lindsey said he wants to stand on the right side of history “with these kids”

He wants to stand on the side of history making a second class citizen classification who are forced into military service if they can’t get into college. And he thinks Donald Trump can sell that inhumane crap to his base at the snap of his magical fingers. I don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon.

The bills received heated criticism from both the right wing and the left wing. Conservatives rejected providing a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, as it would reward them for disregarding United States immigration laws. Liberals criticized the points-based system and provisions limiting family reunification visas available to only nuclear family members of US citizens as unfair. Labor unions, human rights, and some Hispanic organizations attacked the guest workers program, claiming that it would create a group of underclass workers with no benefits.[14] Another criticism of the guest workers program was that because each guest worker is required to return home for a year before renewing his or her visa, these workers would instead overstay their visa, becoming illegal immigrants.

This bill has never been popular with the people but Big Business loves it and wants it… badly. Because it means expanding their pool of available cheap labor and in some cases it means workers would be locked into working for specific companies with no right to leave or complain about how they are treated without risking deportation.

In short, it’s modern day slavery codified by law on a massive scale.

Back in 2007 they were saying there were 12 million illegals here who would be covered under Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Now they say it’s 11 million and unless you believe all those folks are running back across the border at record levels, the reality is, it’s probably closer to 20 million. 20 million legal slaves just waiting to be exploited.

Some say there might be as many as 1 million young people covered under the DREAM ACT. How many do you think Lindsey estimates will make it into college? A tenth? More? Less?

The rest… cannon fodder.

Curious isn’t it? The timing? Lindsey is all about poking a stick in the eye of da ebil Roooskies… and all of a sudden, he’s back on the Comprehensive Immigration Reform and DREAM ACT bandwagon.

Gee, it’s almost as if he thinks we might need a bunch of soldiers sometime soon.

And who better to offer up to the Gods of War than a bunch of displace brown kids?

When they write the history of these times, I’m going to be with these kids,” Lindsey Graham

Ah… no. Lindsey’s candy, pampered, corrupt to the core ass is NOT going to be “with these kids”

He’s not going to be on the battle field. He’s not going to be working the line at McDonald’s or slapping roofing shingles down on hot sunny roofs in Florida for 6 bucks an hour.

Lindsey is going to be seated in his cushy leather chair in the senate in the air conditioning, enjoying his platinum level healthcare plan, you pay for, because in spite of the FACT that he just insulted a good part of his base in South Carolina… he’ll “win” reelection for as long as he wants. He serves Big Business and the MIC like he should and he knows for a fact that the elections in South Carolina are about as rigged as they can possibly be.

  1. He certainly is sleazy looking.
And these immigrants can’t vote against him. They have no power.
Hope this bill does not pass. How cruel we have become.

There you go, Lindsey. Fixed that for ya.

  3. How low they go to have those seats, those perks. And the place is full of them, full of the same breed.
