Iraqi “Federal Police” Death Squads Steal Tents and Water from Refugee Families from Mosul – Leave them Exposed and Thirsty in the Desert

by Scott Creighton

People walk past an empty ground that used to house tents at a camp for for displaced people in the village of Tinah

Walking past plots that used to house 175 of the 200 tents set up there for the refugee families, people spoke of the families being in the tents when the Iraqi Federal Police units moved in and stole them.

Talk about being on the wrong side of history… again.

Just outside Mosul in al-Tinah Iraq, there is a refugee camp set up for displaced families fleeing the violence taking place just a few miles away. Oxfam is providing wash basins and blankets to the hundreds of families forced to live there. Last week the UN delivered truck loads of bottled water to these families in an effort to keep them from dying from dehydration. Apparently everyone knows just how dangerous exposure and dehydration is to young children.

So what does the US Coalition partner Iraq do to help these families? They send in the Federal Police Rapid Response Unit to steal the tents and the water from the families so they can ship that stuff back to a coalition base, QWest, in the nearby town of Qayyarah.

“But when The Telegraph visited a camp in the town of Tinah, near Qayyarah in northern Iraq, this week it was told by local Iraqi police guarding the site that soldiers had come and loaded the tents on to their trucks and left.

They were coming from Baghdad, they said they were the rapid response unit,” said one officer who did not wish to be named to protect his identity.“They said they needed them as they didn’t have enough at their base.

“I begged them not to take them as the refugees here have nothing, but they ignored me and I couldn’t stop them.”

The troops took around 175 of the 200 tents, which were provided by the Iraqi ministry of displacement and migration, and sent them on to the QWest base they share with US troops in the nearby town of Qayyarah.” The Telegraph

The report states that the tents were occupied, many with the families physically inside them, when the Iraq Federal Police units came in and stole them. They also stole the large water bins that literally mean life or death for the refugee families.

Some of the families were thrown out of their tents while they were still in them,” said one refugee at the camp.

“Children were left without homes, again. They have had to move in with others and it is very cramped.”

The troops also took eight Unicef water tanks serving the some 300 families at the site, all of whom have recently fled fighting in their home towns and villages around Isil’s stronghold of Mosul. The Telegraph

Iraqi Federal Police units came to this refugee camp and stole the water and the shelter from families leaving them to suffer and die in the desert. And these are the assholes we are helping in Iraq? Are you kidding me?

Most of the tents were already empty but some 30 families still living here are now staying in 26 tents

Children playing where their tents used to be

This is sickening… but it gets worse.

QWest is actually Qayyarah West airfield which was retaken by Iraqi forces back in July of this year. Defense Secretary Ash Carter praised the Iraqis for taking it and said it was going to be a significant base of operations during the effort to retake Mosul. He said we were stationing 560 troops there to help with that effort.

““With the retaking of Qayyarah West airfield, the Iraqi Security Forces have once again demonstrated a serious will to fight,” Carter said, according to a DoD press release. “I congratulate them on their recent successes and reaffirm that the United States, along with our coalition partners, will continue to do all we can to support Iraq’s effort to serve ISIL [Islamic State] a lasting defeat.”

The additional 560 (US troops) “will provide a range of support for Iraqi Security Forces, including infrastructure and logistical capabilities at the airfield near Qayyarah,” the DoD press release noted.

Q-West “will become a vital springboard for the ISF [Iraqi Security Forces] offensive into Mosul,” while “Coalition forces will also continue to provide enabler support to Kurdish Peshmerga as they converge on Mosul from Iraq’s north.” Long War Journal, July 12, 2016

The United States has troops on the ground in that very same base where Iraq Federal Police units now sip on water and rest in the shade provided by tents all stolen from REFUGEE FAMILIES just outside Mosul.

The “rapid response unit” the Iraqi police officer was talking about having been the ones who committed this war crime are actually the ministry of interior’s Rapid Response Unit who are currently engaged in the fight to retake Mosul.

They are a death squad and have been since way back in 2004 and 2005 when roamed freely throughout Iraq raping, burning and slaughtering Sunnis just as fast as they could. Like the now infamous Wolf Brigade, these guys were monsters and they weren’t monsters of their own creation. We made them when our military leaders decided to enact the Salvador Option in the country as the insurgency grew.

Back then they were known as the Iraqi National Police. In 2009 they changed their name because it was synonymous with death squads. They changed it to the Iraqi Federal Police and they set up a couple divisions, one being assigned exclusively to protect the newly privatized Iraq Central Bank.

Two days ago a report from an unnamed source claimed “ISIS” was committing mass executions of men and boys outside Mosul and using heavy equipment to dig ditches and bury the evidence of their war-crimes. Ironically enough, accompanying the story was a photo of the Iraqi Federal Police units bragging about their efforts in the area.

horror

Obviously, their unnamed source was someone from the Iraqi Federal Police death squad unit. That’s why they included that image with the story.

Why would “ISIS” execute their human shields? That’s kind of counter productive, isn’t it? And why would the same organization that make all those fake beheading videos bother digging a big ditch and bury the bodies? They don’t care about being charged with war-crimes. It’s “ISIS” remember?

The Federal Police death squad killed those Sunni men and boys. And then they ran over and stole the tents and the water from the surviving women and children in the refugee camp.

They do this because they are fanatical monsters of our creation.

And our glorious leaders have stationed them in Q-West right alongside the men and women of our armed services.

Do you think people don’t talk in our forward operating bases in Iraq? Our 19-20 year-old soldiers know perfectly well they are sharing living spaces with monsters who execute men and boys and then steal tents and water from desperate women and children refugees we were supposedly over there protecting.

What does that do to them? What does it do to them when they come back and everyone around them thanks them for their service? It’s no Goddamned wonder the suicide rate for returning vets is at an all-time high.

Meanwhile the MSM is going on and on about how women here in the states are worried that a President Trump might grope someone or try to give them a kiss on the lips.

I saw one guy on Fox News mention this story this morning. He didn’t get into it, just said basically “oh, those whacky Iraqi troops. What are you going to do?” and shrugged it off to go on to a story about a Podesta email.

It makes my skin crawl.

Someone send this article over to that Sane Progressive Youtuber. I would love to hear her take on this one.

  1. Dear God, please help us all!

  2. This is beyond contemptible.

I confess I’m having a difficult time trying to reconcile this madness when I read reports such as these.

And what are we to surmise, sitting here in the comfort of our basement command posts, when we read reports that our alleged “puppet” in Iraq has extended an offer to the Russians that they can’t refuse?

Also China has now been enjoined in the fray to multiply the body counts in Syria. Okay, China in Syria by invitation, I get that; but Russian troops in Iraq engaging ISIS, the misnamed revolutionary guard fighting for Abadi our “puppet”?

Damn, you really can’t tell the players without a scorecard. Even harder is it to determine which actors are still reading from their prepared script or have gone rogue.

…” Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, speaking to the US PBS NewsHour, said he would welcome a deployment of Russian troops to Iraq to fight ISIS (Islamic State / ISIL) forces in his country too. As an added incentive, he noted that this would also give Moscow the chance to deal with the 2,500 Chechen Muslims whom, he said, are fighting with ISIS in Iraq.”

    • I don’t think it’s that hard to understand from Russia at least. They are not knights in white armor in this conflict. they have an expressed economic agenda in Syria which stands in direct conflict with US plans for the country. they seem to be all onboard when it comes to creating a Greater Kurdistan in the region and they did nothing to help the Libyans, the people of Yemen or Sudan for that matter. And now they cut deals to help al-Sisi in Egypt fight his insurgency in Sinai and Abadi in Iraq. Of course, there are terrorists in Iraq running around trying to destabilize areas held by the General Military Council of Iraqi Revolutionaries and maybe Russia is offering to help wipe them out, but by now everyone knows they’ve fled Iraq and been allowed to cross into Syria to help that destabilization program. So, I don’t know. My guess is the Russians understand the GMCIR will lose this fight now that ObamaGod is free to bomb Iraq once again, so they are looking to side with the winner. China in my opinion is the only honest actor involved in all of this. and if they are getting involved in Syria to help that country on the side of the Russians, yeah, it could get nasty real quick. Especially with Crazy Killary in the White House (and all those neocon friends of hers)

      • Crazy Killary’s experienced in nasty. So is Obama crazy that way, along with others in our lifetime.

        Time for a different crazy

        • don’t think we are going to be allowed a different crazy to be honest.

          • Not likely. If we do, we’ll just substitute crazy, murderous greed with crazy, narcissistic greed. Hmmm … maybe the latter has slightly less potential for total planetary destruction? Or maybe it depends on who insults his choice in tie, hair and skin color. Either way, the future isn’t looking bright right now.

            • Reconsidering, maybe there is nothing that could be worse for the country or the people of the world than putting Clinton into the White House.

  3. It’s enough to warm Hillary’s heart.
“We came, we saw, the families died, ha, ha, ha!”

    +++++++++++++++++

I doubt that the Federal Police death squads are directly involved in besieging Mosul. They’re too cowardly. Instead, I suspect that it’s mainly a U.S. bombing campaign camouflaged by false chatter about Kurds and Sunnis and Shi’ites, etc. participating. While everyone condemns the Russian and Syrian governments for bombing east Aleppo the U.S. bombs the entire city of Mosul.

Meanwhile Federal Police death squads orbit around the city, stealing food and shelter from any and all refugees they find.

“We came, we saw, the families died, ha, ha, ha!”

  4. Counterpunch has a honey-trap article almost every day.

    Here is today’s…

“In Mosul, unlike Aleppo, the ISIS defenders are to blame for endangering civilians by using them as human shields and preventing them from leaving. In East Aleppo there are no human shields; just innocent victims of Russian savagery.”

    http://www.counterpunch.org/2016/10/24/aleppo-vs-mosul-media-biases/

    Oh dem ebil Russkies!

    • I understand what you are saying about the term “honeypot” but that’s not how I meant it. What I was saying is Wikileaks operates as a controlled opposition “leak” outlet in order to trick real whistle-blowers into foolishly sending them their information, where Wikileaks then trashes it or buries it. That’s what I was talking about when I pointed out the fact that they threaten to sue them if they give them something then leak it somewhere else after Wikileaks buries it.

      • Understood. I was using the term “honey pit” to denote blogs that have mainly progressive articles so that they can sometimes include right-wing articles whose lies snare leftists.

“Gosh, if Counterpunch or Socialist Worker calls someone a brutal dictator, then he must actually be a dictator.”

        • wikileaks serves both purposes in my opinion. they demonized Palestinians with “leaks” when Israel was bombing them and did the same against Gaddafi in the lead-up to the “humanitarian” bombing campaign back then. That is a good example, that article you linked to. Notice how they subtly supported the Iranian regime change propaganda in the first part of the article and then went on to do the hatchet job on Russia and the resistance in Iraq in the second half? Perfect example of left-wing controlled opposition.

  5. This is the Iraq version, but Mosul is right here in the US, too ( http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-37323969 Chicago more Dangerous than Syria? ). If you can watch that, and read of what’s happening in Scott’s and others’ reportage of the Middle East and total elimination of people-made-poor the world over, and not want to cry, then you need to head on down to your local funeral palor and ask for a walk-in discount. But crying isn’t enough….and any internalizing of emotions will not work. We need to convert that sympathetic energy into tenacity and calculated plans to stop this Death Cult with an agressive empathy. We are up against intelligence agencies, think tanks, and brain trusts….and they don’t call them that for nothing. They’ve got the brains….but they got no heart. They’re half dead already.

We’ve got at least seven billion human beings who want to live real life on our side. The most important step in change behavior we’ve started….we’ve admitted that the reality we have been sold is not the reality of America (or anywhere) that we want to leave our children. We have to share what we know, challenge what we don’t know and everything else. Share with military people who have seen this horror to let them know they are not alone, that you and I and more and more of us in some way understand the madness they’ve been through, and want to stop it. Share especially with people who say there’s nothing we can do about. Find the right voice, the right time.

I mean come on, this is a sad-assed world when we let the same brain toasters in the media try and make us believe that only the likes of Edward Snow-den and Julien Ass-ange are the only agencies we have to find out what’s REALLY happening in our world. We’ve already begun by stopping here and other outlets that challenge spoon-fed “news.” Don’t keep it to yourselves or it will devour you. Somethings like love, truth, and food are best when shared. What did people do before computers? They talked to each other and the really smart ones used their hearts when they listened.

    • I don’t blame average people for adopting apathy out of sheer powerlessness and frustration.

I blame average people who champion the Empire’s lies and its evil. I refer to those smug little creeps who infest the reader comments sections of right-wing blogs like Yahoo or the Wall Street Urinal.

These idiots are the true sustainers of evil in the world, since they are so many. Their evil is like a candle in the dark. One candle cannot be seen from more than a few feet away, but millions of candles together can be seen from outer space.

    • Whoops. Short comment eaten by WordPress.

    • good observation. It’s like Jan10 said when I was discussing this with her while writing it this morning, “they’re bringing this here next aren’t they?” Yeah. They are. Remember that video I posted a couple days ago showing the Special Forces University’s declaration that the direction of total warfare in the future would be completely focused on the urban centers of impoverished citizens? Yeah.

  6. (The thing that made me most suspicious of Wikileaks, especially as of late, is the credible voice they are given by the very Ministry of Propagada that would die from the truth.)

  7. Good comments by JoeB. Add to that that people are no where as near as powerless as they think, and as they will soon discover. The whole crapitalist system is now teetering on an algorithm-based reality-crash that cannot adapt to unexpected changes. For example: simply demanding to speak with a customer rep instead of using a phone tree (or a supervisor instead of the first level rep) will blow up their numbers in a hurry and mess with their profit margins because that’s just how they roll (by planning for only limited escalations of customer requests). They budget for x amount of friction (from us) and cannot handle x – y because it’s not built into their profit model. When people vote with their dollars and their voices then things will change. Start speaking up; just don’t take your anger out on the lower level folks. Make clear your displeasure is higher up the chain and you understand they may be victims as well, at least to a degree. Of course, also don’t hesitate to tell off those who smugly tow scripted customer service BS when appropriate. It’s all friction they can’t handle long-term.

  8. Got another comment stuck in wordpress here, too

  9. Thanks. And that should have read “x + y”, not minus.
