New “Snowden” Revelation that Isn’t Amounts to Nothing More than Terrorism

by Scott Creighton

Winston Smith: [voice-over] Thoughtcrime is death. Thoughtcrime does not entail death. Thoughtcrime IS death. I have committed even before setting pen to paper the essential crime that contains all others unto itself.

Another ground breaking leak (sarcasm) has come from the CIA’s hand puppet, the “Edward Snowden” character, which supposedly reveals the fact that the NSA is building maps of everyone’s social connections via their communications and private social media sources like Facebook, Twitter and so forth.

The New York Times’ James Risen and Laura Poitras  penned an article this weekend titled ‘NSA Gathers Data on Social Connections of U.S. Citizens” in which they make the claims based on documents leaked by “Edward Snowden”.

“… the National Security Agency has been exploiting its huge collections of data to create sophisticated graphs of some Americans’ social connections that can identify their associates, their locations at certain times, their traveling companions and other personal information, according to newly disclosed documents and interviews with officials…

according to documents provided by Edward J. Snowden…

The new disclosures add to the growing body of knowledge in recent months about the N.S.A.’s access to and use of private information concerning Americans” New York Times

Folks like Jason Ditz over at AntiWar are breathlessly reporting on it as if it were some major revelation. It isn’t. Like everything else the Snowden character has “leaked”, it had already been well established that this is what they were doing.

But why do they do it? What’s the purpose behind the so-called “leak” at this time in history?

Is it just distraction value or a continuation of the strategy of tension? Is there a historical pattern we are seeing develop here in this country?

What does it mean when they say they are creating “social networks”? What does that translate to in terms of their SOP?

Is there a darker purpose at play because after all, you have to be pretty brain-dead to have forgotten it was all revealed before and not that long ago.

O’Brien: You must love him. It is not enough to obey him. You must love him.

You might recall, Laura Poitras is the reporter who first broke the “Edward Snowden” story along with Glen Greenwald which was a match made in Heaven considering Greenwald was the pitchman for the previous CIA creation, Wikileaks.

Curiously enough, like ALL the other leaks from “Edward Snowden”,  this one really isn’t new at all.

In fact, Poitras knows the NSA’s building of social network maps for all U.S. citizens is not a new revelation from “Edward Snowden”

She herself did a short documentary called “The Program” with a real NSA whistle-blower, William E. Binney, for the New York Times,  back in Aug of 2012.

Here’s a little quote from Binney:

“The purpose is to be able to monitor what people are doing.  You build social networks for everybody that then turns into the graph then you index all that data to the graph which means you can then pull out a “community” with an outline of the life of everyone in the community. And if you carried it over time from 2001 up you have 10 years of their life you can lay out in a timeline. That involves anybody in the country” William E. Binney, Aug. 2012, Poitras documentary The Program

Binney was speaking directly to Poitras when he said those words slightly over a year ago. Do you think she forgot while she was writing this article in the New York Times that she was told this “groundbreaking” revelation long ago because she never mentions Binney in her new article.

Nor does she mention the fact that this, as Binney stated, started in the wake of 9/11. Rather, this new revelation, according to Poitras, claims it’s only been in existence, or at least turned toward the US public, for the past 3 years. That’s complete BS.

She also doesn’t mention key things like “Stellar Wind” or NarusInsight.  These are the real programs, not the fake one, Pyramid, they created for their psyop roll-out.

Binney has been all over the place talking about the social networks maps being created by the NSA. It’s hard to imagine Laura missed all of them.

They were building social networks on who was communicating  and with whom, inside this country. So your entire social network of everybody, every U.S. citizen, was being compiled over time” William E. Binney , Dec. 2 2012 (see video below)

So… what’s the point?

Well, I think Laura herself makes that very clear in the new Times article:

“Phone and e-mail logs, for example, allow analysts to identify people’s friends and associates, detect where they were at a certain time, acquire clues to religious or political affiliations, and pick up sensitive information like regular calls to a psychiatrist’s office, late-night messages to an extramarital partner or exchanges with a fellow plotterNew York Times

The message is very clear: don’t talk to people about what is going on, don’t write about it, don’t … organize against it.

In this age of social media and instant communication, organizing a real national resistance would be fast and relatively easy compared to earlier times.

What this “revelation” does is say to people “we’re watching you.. and even if we aren’t now, we can retroactively… if you communicate the wrong ideas with the wrong people”

That’s Laura’s message to the country as we get ready for further austerity in the next Grand Compromise of Obama’s

A year ago the “chill” was put on reporters via the 2012 NDAA which basically said they could be arrested without trial by the military if they were found to be in cahoots with someone the administration didn’t like.

Now the “chill” is put on everyone else.

They’re building lists.

“Social networks” … means… lists.

They always build lists. They destabilize countries and then build lists of people who threaten their new regime.

The CIA’s main task when Suharto was put in power in Indonesia was to help build lists of liberals and intellectuals and those who generally via their ideology stood opposed to our new neoliberal dictatorship in that country.

Some estimates are up to one million people slaughtered or disappeared because they happened to believe government didn’t have to be run for, of and by the corporate state.

And here we are, on the cusp of the “transition”, as Hillary Clinton recently put it, of this country into the exact same kind of “New Normal” that Indonesia experienced…

… and once again, they’re steadily building lists.

O’Brien: There are thought criminals who maintain that the resistance is not real. Believe me, Winston, it is very real. Perhaps you are not familiar with how it operates.

Winston Smith: I am attentive to the news.

O’Brien: Indeed. Then perhaps you imagine a huge network of conspirators prepared to commit any atrocity to weaken and demoralize the order of our society. The reality is infinitely more subtle. If Goldstein himself fell into the hands of the Thought Police, he could not give them a list of his agents. Such a list does not exist. They are not an organization in the sense we know. Nothing holds it together but an idea.

When you use fear and threats of violence (arrest is a form of violence) to illicit political, economic or social change in a society, that is terrorism by definition. There’s no other way to look at it.

And that is what this is.

They want you to know they’re watching you, recording your movements, recording your calls. They want you afraid enough to keep silent, to avoid troublemakers, to turtle up and be happy with what little you have. Because it can always be worse.

O’Brien: Power is tearing human minds apart and putting them back together in new shapes of your own choosing.

And that’s the point of Laura’s big revelation. Terrorism.

That’s also the point of the other new “big NSA story” coming from the two Mockingbird assets, Glenn Greenwald and Jeremy Scahill, about the domestic assassination program.

“We’re watching” and “we’ll kill you” so keep your head down and your mouth shut.

And that my friends, is terrorism.

Hell, a few more “revelations” like these and they won’t need to spy on us or kill us off.

Think about this… in the corporate state, it’s not so much that someone is always looking over your shoulder or telling you what to say and what not to… you assume they are so you censor yourself, you police your behavior both at work and away, so that you are not excommunicated, cut off from the lifestyle you have come to enjoy… and then, in that sense, you are truly institutionalized.

You won’t need to be corrected by Big Brother, you won’t need to see what’s inside Room 101,  because by that time, you will love Big Brother and you already know what’s waiting for you.

Winston Smith: I know you’ll fail. Something in this world… some spirit you will never overcome…

O’Brien: What is it, this principle?

Winston Smith: I don’t know. The spirit of man.

O’Brien: And do you consider yourself a man?

Winston Smith: Yes.

O’Brien: If you’re a man, Winston, you’re the last man. Your kind is extinct. We are the inheritors. Do you realize that you are alone? You are outside history. You unexist. Get up.

[Winston gets up and O’Brien shows him his reflection in a mirror. Winston is disheveled and beaten]

O’Brien: *That* is the last man. If you are human, *that* is humanity.

  1. Everybody knew the spying existed but masses need PROOF, they need someone to say we are engaged, we are getting divorced, they need the pieces of paper that provide them with PROOF. Like college degrees from online universities. The piece of paper means you know something. Does it?

  2. Great update on Snowden who seems to have turned quickly into yesterdays news.
Greenwald like his albino mentor WikiLeak’s Julian Assange are once again struggling for relevancy.
DemocracyNow! gate keeper Jeremy Scahill with his narcisitic film may help keep Greenwald’s face in the news for a while at least.
Here’s a comment I made to Russia Today story that they were teaming up :
So these “Arab Spring” cheerleader custodians of the left are going to enlighten us about the “US assassination program”.
They sat on their hands while the rest of us demonstrated, petitioned, e-mailed, faxed, and shouted to our leaders at town hall meetings for NO WAR on SYRIA!
Don’t believe me? Just do some Google searches or look at their Tweets. They were all but DEAD SILENT on Skull & Bones John Kerry’s push to WWIII.
See what their position is on the events of 911, if you want to know their gatekeeper mentality.
The most they can offer is a re-hash of what we already know completely avoiding any discussion of the ambassador Robert Ford/ Negroponte “Salvador Option” death squads now in charge of Libya and murdering the people of Syria.
I’m not expecting much from these two “Arab Spring” cheerleaders. They commented little or nothing on the CIA death squad snuff murder of African Leader Muammar Gaddafi.
I doubt whether they will mention or even know who Patrice Lumumba was or really have any handle on the real history of the “US assassination program” since WWII.
They will instead try to frame it as some recent NSA invention of the Obama administration leaving the Bush-Cheney gang off the hook.
DemocracyNow’s Scahill and Snowden’s Greenwald are yesterday’s news struggling for relevancy now that the rest of us struggled & stopped the NATO “Arab Spring’ WWIII strike on Syria.
