ABC is lying to you. Whether they know it or not, they are supposed to research what they put on tv prior to running with a story. They obviously haven’t done any research with their recent story about what the “underwear bomb” could have done to a plane. What they have done is bowed to the military industrial complex and run a video based entirely on the misinformation they were given. That isn’t journalism and you would think they would have learned their lesson after all the bullshit they “reported” in the run-up to the Iraq war. Simply put, 50gs of PETN would NOT do that to a plane and I have the video evidence to prove it.
(side note: if anyone knows how to archive these videos, please do so. They will almost surely disappear as more people start looking at them and making the same comparisons that I am)
The fact that this man allegedly did what he did is bad enough, but now we have major news organizations using dishonest graphic videos to lie to their audience in order to incite fear in the general population. When they do that, it has to make one wonder about the event in the first place. Especially when the circumstances of the event are so curious and even more so when the news and apparently the government is lying through their teeth about it on national television. The question becomes; if they will lie about one aspect to serve their own purposes, what else are they willing to lie about?
I’ve done a little research on PETN in the past; specifically, how it works when used as det cord. If you have been reading here for a while, you are familiar with what I wrote and the research that I have done. When I first read that the guy had 50gs (that was the first story, then they “upped” it to 80 grs) of PETN in his pants, I thought that was kind of odd in itself. 50gs of PETN could possibly be useful in an attack on an airliner, but you would pretty much have to put it up against the side of the cabin when ignited. It would certainly blow a hole through the aluminum composite wall but not a huge one. That sudden decrease in cabin pressure, though not catastrophic, could certain cause major problems. However, if those 50gs were to be located in a more sensitive area of the plane, then of course it could be big trouble. I certainly don’t recommend trying it.
This is what 50gs of PETN will do. As you can see, it’s an even larger package of PETN than that which the “underwear bomber” had strapped to his crotch.
The sapling it takes out is about 2″ in diameter, which you can see at the end of the short video. Obviously the explosion is not massive but PETN is definitely a high explosive and something you should not fuck with if you aren’t professionally trained to do so. We are not talking about a M-80 or your average bottle rocket. We are also not talking about Steven Jones’ ridiculous “thermite” here. This stuff is the real deal and I am certainly not making light of it.
In another video, we see what 50 grs of PETN does when packed into a brick wall. Notice again the consistency with the first video in relation to the smoke and noise produced. You will also notice that in the end of the ABC video they show how much PETN is 80 grs worth in a measuring cup. That amount is proportional to what we see packed in the wall.
Here is a still photo taken from that experiment.
Now, ABC News is showing over and over again a video of what they claim just 50 grs of PETN will do to a plane. It’s remarkably different from anything else you will find on PETN, so much so that I had to post this article as quickly as I could. This kind of deliberate misinformation is done for one reason and one reason only; fear mongering.
Let me go on record as saying 50gs of PETN sitting in a chair in economy class will NOT do this to an aircraft. No way. No how. Simply put, it is impossible.
Here’s a still from a close up version they showed again during the same segment. You are undoubtably going to see these videos over and over again just like the towers falling on 9/11. This is even more disgusting because these videos aren’t even of what happened… they are some defense department warmongers lie about “what would have happened”. It’s a fiction. A blatant lie being sent out there to do nothing other than frighten the public when the reality is, the ridiculous “underwear bomb” could not have done this and they damn well know it. It is shameful that someone in the military would promote this and it is even more shameful that ABC would use it to sell commercial airtime.
Can YOU see a difference between the two experiments? Does one look much larger than the other? Just in case you wonder about the first video, here is another with 50 gms of PETN. Notice it’s sound and visible output of smoke is about the same as the first video I put up.
Below we have 150g PETN + 250g Amonium nitrat
Starting to see a pattern here? Again, this is not something for you to try at home kiddies. This shit is dangerous. However, ABC and the military industrial complex (who is just DYING to start up another conflict in an oil producing country) is taking advantage of the fact that people don’t really have an understanding of what this stuff is or what it can do.
It would appear that far too many people have been commenting on the pathetic nature of this recent “al Qaeda” (I put that in parenthesis for you Jlennon08) attack and the ridiculousness of the “underwear bomb” itself so they decided to LIE TO YOU about the danger it posed. This is not only bad journalism, it is flat-out propaganda and it’s a lie.
Thanks to Kenny at Kenny’s Sideshow for first putting up the image of the blown up airliner in the ABC video and wondering about the relevent facts of the matter. To answer your question; no, 50gs of PETN cannot do that to an airliner.
As a side note I just want to say, that after all the fucking lies that the FBI has pawned off on us, I am tired of listening to what “they say” the “underwear bomber” is saying or confessing too. There was a time when an agency like the FBI wouldn’t even attempt to get away with such crap like that. I remember a time when the FBI spent 10 years pretending like organized crime didn’t exist in this country because someone had a picture of Hoover giving some guy head. So they LIED FOR 10 YEARS to the American public and allowed criminals to literally get away with murder.
More recently THEY LIED about Dr. Ivins and would have had to pay ANOTHER 5 MILLION DOLLARS (of our money by the way) for trying to frame that man… had he not “committed suicide” before he could defend himself in court.
And now, we take it ON FAITH that what some undisclosed FBI agent tells us about the “underwear bomber” is confessing to is the truth? After we can clearly see the lie in their 50gs of PETN video? I don’t think so. ABC should know better. It’s nothing more than propaganda and I for one won’t ever trust a thing they say again.
