Once More Into the Breach, Dear Friends, Once More…

by Scott Creighton

As the forest burns and flames leap from tree to brush, the wildlife stampedes to safety ignoring the clarion call of those they left behind.  Cowardice is their only recognizable feature after their mask of courage melts away.

We who were once the few who stood against the tide of imperialist America’s baseless wars of aggression will stand alone again soon enough. The writing is clear. Our support, our colleagues, our brothers in peace have left us on the battle fields so that they may still scratch out their own secure place in the ghetto that awaits us all.

Obama administration targets the working class

by Patrick Martin, WSWS

In compelling GM to file for bankruptcy, Obama is giving the signal to all of corporate America to attack the jobs, wages, pensions and health benefits fought for by working people in the course of more than a century. The full power of the US government is being used to set an example of making the working class pay for the crisis of capitalism.

Is Larry Summers Taking Kickbacks From the Banks He’s Bailing Out?

Mark Ames, Truthdig

Is Larry Summers taking kickbacks from the banks he’s bailing out?

Last month, a little-known company where Summers served on the board of directors received a $42 million investment from a group of investors, including three banks that Summers, Obama’s effective “economy czar,” has been doling out billions in bailout money to: Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley. The banks invested into the small startup company Revolution Money, right at the time when Summers was administering the “stress test” to these same banks.

Author Posts $1 Million Dollar Bounty for Prosecution of War Criminals

Why do you killThe author of a new book, Why Do You Kill?, that details the experiences of the members of the Iraqi resistance fighters has apparently announced on FireDogLake a 1 Million Dollar bounty for anyone who can bring Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Blair before a judge for criminal prosecution of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

.  Think that might shake out a few whistle-blowers?

Dr. Jürgen Todenhöfer’s comment from FireDogLake (emphasis is his own):

Sometimes I was just silent and bit my lips. When I wrote certain parts of my book, I was crying like a child. This is one of the reasons why I think we should punish the politicans who were responsible for this war and all the suffering of the Iraqi people.

As a former judge and honorary Colonel of the US Army I will offer one million Dollar to the one, who brings George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Tony Blair in a fair and legal procedure before an American or an international court on the grounds:
of the wounding and killing of thousands of American GIs and
of the torture, dismemberment and killing of hundreds of thousands innocent Iraqi civilians.

As the Nuremberg war crimes tribunal stated: “To initiate a war of aggression is not only an international crime, it is the supreme international crime – differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within it the accumulated evil of all crimes of war.” The chief U.S. prosecutor Robert H. Jackson said: “We must never forget that the record on which we judge these defendants today constitutes the record on which history will judge us tomorrow.” Or as the famous British writer and actor Peter Ustinov once noted: “Wars are the terrorism of the rich.”

A true democrat and a firm believer in the rule of law cannot hang the little thieves and let the great ones escape. Dr. Jürgen Todenhöfer

Amazon book review:

Jürgen Todenhöfer’s book sheds light on the other side of the story, reporting on how Iraqi people talk about the war when there are no heavily armed GIs in the vicinity, and when neither helicopters nor Humvees have been “cleansing” and securing the area for hours beforehand for politicians and press convoys. Why Do You Kill? gives a voice to those whom Pentagon press officers never take their visitor delegations to see—members of the Iraqi resistance. The book attempts to explain why this resistance is not only fighting against American troops, but also against Al Qaeda terrorists and the foreign-backed private militias of Iraqi politicians. It clarifies the fundamental differences between resistance fighters and terrorists.

The author gives a voice to those who are truly fighting for justice and freedom. And just as in Algeria in the 1960s and in Afghanistan in the 1980s, these were and are—in Iraq in the year 2009—not the occupying troops, but the resistance fighters.

Redefining Torture: The Mancow/Keith-O Show

by Scott Creighton

I have deliberately stayed out of the Mancow/water-boarding fiasco because I just can’t stand obvious propaganda and PR moves. I don’t care what side of the pretend left/right divide it comes from, it’s just stagnate BS one way or the other.

But today, someone wrote something about this insipid little sideshow that absolutely reflected what I thought the day after it happened. And it isn’t going to be what you think it is going to be.

Raw Story has an article about this ridiculous scheme; apparently it was all “staged” according to some website somewhere.

No shit.

Gawker gets the first annual, American Everyman “NoShitDipShit” Award for stating the obvious; that not only was the Mancow thing staged, but that it was probably contrived by Olbermann as well, or his “people”.

Olbermann of course denied everything live on the air with Mancow getting some more precious face-time (and the story and the “water-boarding” video getting more play) and he even used the “conspiracy theorist” ad hom attack on Gawker, which for me did nothing more than to further expose Olbermann as a corporatist brown-shirt bobble-head doll with a big paycheck and the sense to know what side his limo is buttered on.  (Go back to ESPN, asshole. And take your fake self-righteous indignation with you)

Of course it’s fake. All bullshit. But now the real question is “why?”.

The Obama Youth Corps Wave

Fascism isn’t something those “other” people did, it’s right here.

You ask “How could the German people do nothing as all those innocent people were being murdered?

For the rest of your lives you will never allow a group’s will to usurp your individual rights…

or the rights of others… no matter what the cost, no matter what the risk.
