Don’t Fall for the Old Divide and Conquer Trick

by George Washington, Washington Blog

The powers-that-be are trying to distract us from the looting of our wallets by the big banks by creating a left-versus-right, us-versus-them drama.

You know, the old divide-and-conquer schtick.

Americans from across the political spectrum are furious at the financial elite who have robbed us blind, and their enablers in government.

While at the moment, conservatives are getting more press, those on the left are just as angry. For example, leading progressive Glenn Greenwald wrote an essay entitled “The virtues of public anger and the need for more” cheering the fact that Americans are starting to get in touch with their righteous anger at being ripped off.

Iraq air raids hit mostly women and children

(Bush’s “Shock and Awe” was a war-crime in both Iraq and Afghanistan. If Obama insists on continuing the practice in Afghanistan and Pakistan, he is also guilty and should be impeached and prosecuted as a war criminal just like Bush before him.)

85% Bombing Causualties in Iraq are Women and Children

85% Bombing Causualties in Iraq are Women and Children

Air strikes and artillery barrages have taken a heavy toll among the most vulnerable of the Iraqi people, with children and women forming a disproportionate number of the dead.

Analysis carried out for the research group Iraq Body Count (IBC) found that 39 per cent of those killed in air raids by the US-led coalition were children and 46 per cent were women. Fatalities caused by mortars, used by American and Iraqi government forces as well as insurgents, were 42 per cent children and 44 per cent women.

One Conflict, Two Billboards; The Marketing of Morality

by Scott Creighton

Recently, two billboards have been brought to my attention.  On the surface they represent the two sides of a rather one-sided conflict (“one sided” at least as far as the new Obama/Emanuel administration is concerned) and that is the continuation of U.S. financial and military support of Israel, Obama’s “Beacon of Democracy” in the Middle East.  But I think there is something else going on here. The key is the statement from the  Springfield Jewish Federation’s website about “community-wide programming“.   It is also important to note, that the “pro-Palestinian” billboard is actually put up by an organization run by a man who was a member of AIPAC who got sick of what he was seeing AIPAC get away with on the U.S. taxpayer’s dime; The Coalition to Stop $30 Billion to Israel.

One Conflict, Two Billboards

I am curious as to what the readers here think of these campaigns. What is the appeal the marketers are targeting? What is the basis for the entire campaign? and what does that say about the respective “rightness” of their causes?

Economic Terrorism

by Scott Creighton

***UPDATE*** “…some of the country’s largest mortgage companies and banks, including those that have received billions of dollars in government handouts, have sharply increased their foreclosure filings since Obama announced his “Homeowner Affordability and Stability Plan” last month. Among the firms mentioned were JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo…”  WSWS

Once we taxpayers absorbed their “sub-prime” and “liar-loan” losses on massive scales and after AIG funneled even more U.S. taxpayer dollars to them under the dark of night, the big banks were busy turning healthy profits but still refusing to ease credit restrictions and make personal and small business loans… which was supposedly the whole point of this endless bailout in the first place.  If you don’t recognize this as a massive fraud and economic terrorism on a global scale, I got a sub-prime financing offer I would like to talk to you about….
