(It takes some real balls to attempt to break an Israeli blockade off the coast of Gaza. Especially in a boat called the “SS Liberty”. Do you remember what happened to the last boat named ‘Liberty” that was in this area? Find out here.
Peace activists may be attacked at sea by Israel for trying to break the illegal siege of the Gaza Strip. Israel is threatening to capture and “interrogate” , by force, the 60 or so peace activists and journalistswho are trying to call attention to the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza. The activists and journalists are determined to get to Gaza. This may end very badly. This story will NEVER see the light of day in the MSM. I hope you pass it on to other sites.)
(This is where they are reported to be by the journalists on-board.)
(This is a comment from that journalist on-board the SS. Liberty:
“A Message to All from the SS Liberty: “We’ve entered Gazan waters. We’re flying the Palestinian flag, and we now believe that we’re going to reach the shores of Gaza very soon. I missed the start of the Berlin Wall coming down by just a few days, but now I know how people felt when they tore down those first few bricks. Today is a huge victory of people over power.” –Yvonne Ridley, abord the SS Liberty, bound for Gaza, 23 Aug. 2008″
***UPDATE*** It appears that Israel’s tough talk was just that; ABC News is reporting that Israel has decided to allow them to reach Gaza. Story here.
***UPDATE 2**** They have reached Gaza!
.by Amos Harel from Haaretz, here.
Defense officials favor forcefully blocking two boats which a group of U.S.-based activists plan to sail to Gaza to protest what they call “the Israeli siege on the Strip,” Haaretz has learned.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Israel is within its rights to use force against the seafarers.
