Dennis Kucinich on the Democrats’ Bailout Betrayal

by Chris Hedges, TruthDig here.

The passing of the $850-billion bailout pulled the plug on the New Deal. The Great Society is now gasping for air, mortally wounded, coughing up blood. It will not recover. It was murdered by the Democratic Party.

We are on our own. And don’t expect any help from Barack Obama and Joe Biden, who lobbied hard for the bill and voted for it. Ignore their rhetoric. Look coldly at the ballots they cast against us. We, as citizens, have only a handful of representatives left in Washington, most of whom were left sputtering in rage and frustration on the House floor. The sad irony is that some of them were Republican.

“This was the largest single act of class warfare in the modern history of this country,” Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, who led the fight in the House against the bailout, told me by phone from Cleveland. “It is a direct attack on the American people’s ability to be able to stabilize their homes and their neighborhoods. This single vote will define the careers of everyone. We are back to taxation without representation, to markets that are openly rigged.”

Kucinich Will Get His Chance, Yet Pelosi Still Says No Vote on the Floor

Kucinich on Secret Meetings and Democracy

by Scott Creighton

Since 1825 there have been 3 secret sessions of the House of Representatives” All three appear to have dealt with the Contra affair or Iran/Contra, “..and no time since 1983.”.

As the House prepared to go into an unprecedented secret session to “debate” the, now passed FISA Bill, Dennis Kucinich stood up and spoke. He was at one time, faced off by Steny Hoyer with Nancy Pelosi by his side.

Steny Hoyer “The purpose of the session is to offer information that might not otherwise be appropriate to disclose in public session.”

He never faltered, he never wavered in his abject refusal to support any part of this Bill. Any part. Remember what he was fighting for people, and WHO he was fighting against. He fought AGAINST fellow democrats as well as republicans that wanted not only to hand over retroactive immunity to corporations for breaking the law but also he was fighting against a program that would increase the spying powers of a rogue administration.

All of this, to be ‘debated” in private; in secret; in THE PEOPLE’S HOUSE.

This is what democracy looks like, people. This is what “the fringe” left is fighting for. They are fighting for us. Never forget that. Never confuse it with “compromise” or “bi-partisanship”. Never allow the DLC/DNC corporatist talking point of voting for a “lesser of two evils” or “viable candidates” to shape how you think, or vote. Because, in the end, it’s not the candidate they are claiming to be “not-viable”, it’s his platform; his ideals. They were our ideals, and they are still our ideals. And they are still the most viable ideals in the effort to preserve our form of democracy.

What happened with FISA was not compromise, it was defeat. It was a defeat for the constitution; for our form of democracy; and for the fringe-left Democratic Party that made this country great before the Reagan Revolution trickled down it’s greed and corruption all over America.

Kucinich: ” We went to war for the oil companies”

(So close, he is… Yes, we didn’t go to Iraq to bring “freedom” like Scott McClellen says so often in his new book and on almost every interview he gives. We didn’t go for cheap oil, and we didn’t even go for oil at all; we went into Iraq for the oil COMPANIES. And that is a big difference. At some point we are going to have to redefine treason to include selling out the American people to benefit corporations at the detriment of those same Americans.)

by Nick Juliano from Raw Story, here.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who has introduced measures to impeach George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, said Thursday that oil executives who secretly met with the vice president in 2001 should be held criminally liable for pushing an illegal war.

“In March of 2001, when the Bush Administration began to have secret meetings with oil company executives from Exxon, Shell and BP, spreading maps of Iraq oil fields before them, the price of oil was $23.96 per barrel. Then there were 63 companies in 30 countries, other than the US, competing for oil contracts with Iraq,” the Ohio Democrat said during a speech on the House floor.

Support a Pro-Impeachment Candidate

“Kucinich Has Exposed the Democratic Complicty”

by Michael Cavlan from OpEd News, here.

Dennis Kucinich just released 35 counts against George Bush, calling for Impeachment. He is being ignored by the media. We all need to condemn the corporate media for their continued betrayal of the public trust by its silence on this. This betrayal is even worse than the corporate media aiding the Bush Administration lies that got us into the illegal, immoral invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Put Kucinich on Meet the Press

David Swanson of After Downing Street and Democrats.com appeals to Meet the Press to invite Dennis Kucinich to the show to discuss his articles of impeachment. An old video of Kucinich on Meet the Press shows just how right he was, even before the war (while Hillary was repeating Bush’s fraudulent claims about Iraq.).

Gore Vidal’s Articles of Impeachment

by Gore Vidal, from Truthdig here.

On June 9, 2008, a counterrevolution began on the floor of the House of Representatives against the gas and oil crooks who had seized control of the federal government. This counterrevolution began in the exact place which had slumbered during the all-out assault on our liberties and the Constitution itself.

I wish to draw the attention of the blog world to Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s articles of impeachment presented to the House in order that two faithless public servants be removed from office for crimes against the American people. As I listened to Rep. Kucinich invoke the great engine of impeachment-he listed some 35 crimes by these two faithless officials-we heard, like great bells tolling, the voice of the Constitution itself speak out ringingly against those who had tried to destroy it.

They got him on a leash

“I’ll keep standing up and speaking out. It’s time for you to do the same.”  and not a word about impeachment…

Really Dennis? You’ll keep speaking out as long as you don’t mention what they told you not to talk about, huh?

Fallen Heros

“This is going to be a very challenging election.” Because it is going to be rigged, dimwit.

Kucinich Speaks Out for the Palestinians on the floor of the House

Rarely, do you see a a politician these days with the kind of courage Dennis Kucinich has. For those of you familiar with this site, you know that the struggle of the Palestinian people is a topic often addressed here. But it is rarely, if ever, mentioned on the floor of the House of Representatives. In a body politic unduly influenced by the Israeli lobby, the suffering and institutionalized injustice of the Palestinians caused by Israeli actions, never sees the light of day. Dennis Kucinich delivered this speech today.

Kucinich at the Winter Soldier Event

“This is a very important gathering here.”

“this war was a war of choice. And it cannot be justified.”

“The Winter Soldiers are in the finest tradition of our first amendment.”

So we don’t forget why he was the real hope of so many. So we don’t forget what it sounds like when a candidate says the things that we know to be true, rather than worrying about if the MSM will cover it. So we don’t forget as we plod toward Iran with ballots in hand looking the other way.

This man was change.

(BTW that’s Adam Kokesh at the end of the video. He’s dressed up and out of his now boonie cover, but that is him. article here.)
