Christiane Amanpour is Just Pathetic

by Scott Creighton

When someone says it takes a lot of effort to spin Israel as the perpetual victim in whatever atrocity  they commit, they could easily be talking about this recent pathetic display by sycophantic CNN policy pitch-person Christiane Amanpour.

This over-paid hack hag starts the hit-piece interview with Khaled Mashal with a voice over claiming he represents a pariah (Hamas) “considered by Israel and the U.S. and much of the West to be a terrorist organization”

Israel Targets International Journalists in Gaza While Obama Poops on Peace Prize

by Scott Creighton

UPDATE: Israeli officials Tweet picture of fake Gaza hospital sign to justify their bombing of hospitals.

——–

Obama responds to Israeli aggression in Gaza while the rent-a-crowd in Thailand chants “Obama! Obama! Obama!”

Israel is stepping up their brutal and illegal attack on Gaza making ready for their ground assault. In order to do that, they decided to silence the would be witnesses of their criminal aggression by sending them a message. A clear and distinct message:

“Early this morning, just after dawn, the Israeli military targeted two media buildings in the Gaza Strip, injuring six journalists with one losing his leg in an amputation after the bombing. “We obviously know there are journalists in the building,” said IDF spokesperson Avital Leibovich hours later, confirming the Israeli military knowingly targeted news organizations in a military strike to destroy an antenna that was located on the roof of the building.  Leibovich continued, “so we did not attack any other floor in the building, but my advice to journalist visiting Gaza is to stay away from any Hamas positions, or Hamas sites, or Hamas posts for their own safety.” Mondoweiss

Israel agents phone Gaza media threatening to flatten their buildings to the ground unless they evacuate,” said Fear on Twitter.

Israel is removing the press so they can do what they are about to do in the dead silence, in the dark.

Israeli Warmonger Claims they Didn’t Kill Enough Palestinians During Operation Cast Lead

by Scott Creighton

UPDATE: This from a writer who was invited to stand with AIPAC and J Street (yes, J Street stands with Israel on the issue of bombing and murdering Palestinian children). The writer, MJ Rosenberg, had this too say about the offer:

“In God’s name, why would anyone join a rally to support such abominations?”

Richard Goldstone Folds

by Scott Creighton

Frankly, I don’t care how many Mossad agents threatened the lives of his children, in the end Richard Goldstone has betrayed all of humanity with his pathetic retraction.

I just read Richard Goldstone’s “Reconsidering the Goldstone report on Israel and war crimes” and I have to say that I haven’t seen a more obvious and cowardly betrayal of historical fact… ever. I don’t even think that Donald Rumsfeld’s new book could come close to this in terms of outright revisionist history.

The Goldstone Report has been a thorn in the side of the zionist rulers of Israel and their apologist corp of internet Megaphonies and propaganda peddlers, since it was published. It’s a stark and candid assessment of the brutality unleashed by Israel on the confined people of Gaza living in what some call the “largest open air prison in the world”. It correctly accused Israel of potential war crimes and crimes against humanity and recommended a full inquiry by the International Criminal Court. The fact that Richard Goldstone turned into a coward after god-knows how many zealots threatened his life, changes nothing.

Netanyahu: I deceived US to destroy Oslo accords

(In this video, it appears as if Bibi is boasting about how he undermined the Oslo accords, how they are smashing the Palestinians to undermine Arafat, and how “absurd” it is that “80%” of the U.S. population supports what Israel is doing. The sound is disabled for some reason but it appears as if the English captions sync-up with the body language we can see in the video. Also of note, this video was being talked about and written about prior to it’s translation by people like Jonathan Cook, so my guess is the translation is accurate.)

by Jonathan Cook, Redress

There is one video Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, must be praying never gets posted on YouTube with English subtitles. To date, the 10-minute segment has been broadcast only in Hebrew on Israel’s Channel 10. [Editor’s note: A version of the Natanyahu video with English subtitles is now available and can be viewed, together with the translated English transcripy, here.]

Its contents, however, threaten to gravely embarrass not only Mr Netanyahu but also the US administration of Barack Obama.

The film was shot, apparently without Mr Netanyahu’s knowledge, nine years ago, when the government of Ariel Sharon had started reinvading the main cities of the West Bank to crush Palestinian resistance in the early stages of the second intifada.

Binyamin Natanyahu “dismisses the US as ‘easily moved to the right direction’ and calls high levels of popular American support for Israel ‘absurd’.

At the time Mr Netanyahu had taken a short break from politics but was soon to join Mr Sharon’s government as finance minister.

On a visit to a home in the settlement of Ofra in the West Bank to pay condolences to the family of a man killed in a Palestinian shooting attack, he makes a series of unguarded admissions about his first period as prime minister, from 1996 to 1999.

Israel attacks aid ship, kills at least 10 civilians

by Glenn Greenwald, Salon

… It hardly seemed possible for Israel — after its brutal devastation of Gaza and its ongoing blockade — to engage in more heinous and repugnant crimes.  But by attacking a flotilla in international waters carrying humanitarian aid, and slaughtering at least 10 people, Israel has managed to do exactly that.  If Israel’s goal were to provoke as much disgust and contempt for it as possible, it’s hard to imagine how it could be doing a better job.

…  The one silver lining from these incidents is that the real face of Israel becomes increasingly revealed and undeniable.  Not even the most intense propaganda systems can prettify a lethal military attack on ships carrying civilians and humanitarian aid to people living in some of the most wretched and tragic conditions anywhere in the world.  It is crystal clear to anyone who looks what Israel has become, and the only question left is how will the rest of the world — beginning with their American patrons — will react.

As Americans suffer extreme cuts in education for their own children and a further deterioration in basic economic security (including Social Security), will they continue to acquiesce to the transfer of billions of dollars every year to the Israelis, who — unlike Americans — enjoy full, universal health care coverage?  How is the revulsion justifiably provoked by this latest Israeli crime going to impact American efforts in the Muslim world (as but one of many examples to come, Al Jazeera reports that “Moqtada al-Sadr has called for a large anti-Israel rally across from the Green Zone in Baghdad”)?  How much longer will Americans be willing to pay the extreme prices for its endlessly entangled “alliance” with its prime Middle Eastern client state, whose capacity for criminal and inhumane acts appears limitless?  Glenn Greenwald

Another $205 Million for Israel

by Scott Creighton

Barack Obama wants congress to pay $205 million dollars over and above the $3 billion a year we give to Israel,  to help Israel defend themselves from this…

Barack Obama wants congress to pay $205 million to Israel, a year and a half after Israel did this to the walled off people of Gaza …

Barack Obama wants congress to pay $205 million to Israel, a country that already has plenty of these…

Educating Jon

by Scott Creighton

Absent the naive expectation of any meaningful catharsis on the part of Jon Stewart (after all “It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding itUpton Sinclair), the ambition of the following revelations rests primarily in the “hearts and minds” of his audience.  Make no mistake about it, whether by absence of conscious or by sloppy investigational practices (both equally inexcusable), Jon Stewart is peddling neoconservative propaganda disguised as “insightful liberal comedy” and the intended outcome of that propaganda, quite simply, is to create an atmosphere in Progressive America conducive to actions resulting in dire consequences to people all over the world. There will be blood.

Without my having to resort to breathless hyperbole (again), simply allow me to say that in these difficult and dangerous times, Jon Stewart’s cavalier attitude about the deliberately misleading and  inaccurate messages he gives to his audience is so remarkably hypocritical that any self-respecting liberal must either publicly call him to account for his recent behavior, or simply leave him to rot in his own cesspool of deceit. And as his Nielsen ratings drop because his progressive audience has grown tired of hearing his neocon talking points glibly regurgitated and as his network, Comedy Central (Viacom), begins to consider less prominent roles for Stewart in their organization, it is reasonable to expect an entirely new production direction to be laid out for the Daily Show (a “retooling” if you will), complete with a drastically improved vetting process by their writing staff minus the Karl Rovian talking points circa 2003.

The “market” is a terrible and powerful thing and understanding its nature can be quite useful.

In the ‘news” business and the “fake news” business alike (aren’t both “fake” anyway?), the key to sustainable marketability and ratings points/share growth is credibility. Without it, you have nothing. Without credibility you have no “trust” and without “trust” you have declining market share (Just ask Goldman Sachs what stock value they place in “trust” as they squirm and wiggle from one congressional committee investigation to the next).  It is that declining market share which will ultimately facilitate the title of this article. It is not within this writer’s limited purview to compel one such as Jon Stewart to forgo his darker vocation, but it is well within yours.

Rabbis Condemn Israel for War Crimes Committed in Gaza: Open Letter to Judge Goldstone

Dear Judge Goldstone,

As rabbis from diverse traditions and locations, we want to extend our warmest mazel tov to you as an elder in our community upon the Bar Mitzvah of your grandson. Bar and Bat Mitzvah is a call to conscience, a call to be responsible for the welfare of others, a call to fulfill the covenant of peace and justice articulated in our tradition.

As rabbis, we note the religious implications of the Report you authored. We are reminded of Shimon Ben Gamliel’s quote, “The world stands on three things: justice, truth, and peace as it says ‘Execute the judgment of truth, and justice and peace will be established in your gates’ (Zaccariah 8:16).” We affirm the truth of the report that bears your name.

Gaza’s Calm Determination

by Norman Finkelstein, Information Clearinghouse

To preserve my sense of purpose, and keep the Palestine struggle from becoming a lifeless abstraction, I need periodically to recharge my moral batteries by reconnecting with the actual people living under occupation and by witnessing firsthand the unfolding tragedy. From each trip I invariably carry away a handful of stark images that I fix in my mind’s eye to dispel the occasional hesitations about staying the course. When the memories begin to fade I know it is time to return.

Talk to Hamas:As Israeli soldiers we hang our heads in shame over last year’s attack on Gaza’s civilian population. Dialogue, not war, is needed

by Arik Diamant and David Zonsheine, the Guardian

The Israeli media marked the one-year anniversary of Operation Cast Lead, the war on Gaza, almost as a celebration. The operation is recognised almost unanimously in Israel as a military triumph, a combat victory over one of Israel’s deadliest enemies: Hamas.

As combat soldiers of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), we have serious doubts about this conclusion, primarily because hardly any combat against Hamas took place during the operation. As soon as the operation started, Hamas went underground.

Most casualties were inflicted on Palestinians by air strikes, artillery fire, and snipers from afar. Combat victory? Shooting fish in a barrel is more like it.

“To shoot an elephant” is an eye witness account from The Gaza Strip. December 27th, 2008, Operation Cast Lead. 21 days shooting elephants. Rattling the Cage: A taboo question for Israelis

by Larry Derfner, Jerusalem Post

There’s a question we Israelis won’t ask ourselves about the Palestinians, especially not about Gaza. The question is taboo. Not only won’t anyone ask it out loud, but very, very few people will dare ask it in the privacy of their own minds.

However, I think it’s time we start asking it, privately and in public. If we don’t, I think there’s going to be Operation Cast Lead II, then Operation Cast Lead III, and each one is going to be worse than the last, and the consequences for Palestinians and Israelis are going to be unimaginable.

The question we have to ask ourselves is this: If anybody treated us like we’re treating the people in Gaza, what would we do?

We don’t want to go there, do we? And because we don’t, we make it our business not to see, hear or think about how, indeed, we are treating the people in Gaza.
