The campaign to privatize the public education system in America is well underway with help from Vichy politicians on the right and the left. The for-profit charter school system doesn’t work. Well, let me put it this way, it does work for what it is designed to do which is keep children of low income families in their place, learning how to work at Burger King or Wal-Mart, while giving the few children of wealthy families all the benefits of a classical liberal type education. Mega-corporations are now vying for the tax-money and hollowed out public school buildings that used to make-up one of the best public school systems in the world. The more charter schools we have, the lower our kids verbal scores on the SAT tests get. That’s a fact. There’s a reason for that; they don’t want the American public to be able to reason.
Well, while the campaign to turn a profit off of keeping kids ignorant is well underway, I just thought I would give you a glimpse into how well the for-profit model is working in the country that started the whole thing off under the watchful eye of brutal fascist dictator Augusto Pinochet.
What they do in Chile is use public money to fund charter type, for-profit schools. Families with money send their kids to good schools with low numbers of students per classroom, while working class and poorer families have to send their kids to shitholes. And the kids are tired of it. They started a revolution against the for-profit model back in 2006 called the Penguin Revolution and they are still at it today.

Palestinian kids throw rocks at them. In Grease and Spain it’s rocks and cocktails. Can’t tell what they use in Chile. Thing is, they’re all over the world–and hated by 99% of the world.
I wonder where they find them, these freaks to put in their riot squads. Maybe graduates of some charter school.

Roy, you don’t have to find these people. You just train up the one’s you’ve got. The training of soldiers and the general public has always included demonisation of the “enemy” and, as Scott regularly points out, that demonisation is now focussed squarely on the 99%.
Hello Roy and John,
it occurred to me that the riot police might have problems with attacking school protesters…. how would they know if their own kids or nephews or nieces aren’t in the protesting group? Police can’t afford these elite schools for their children…. especially when their unions start failing (and the elite are trying hard to break them down now).
and aren’t those riot outfits hot as hell? How long can a human last in one? and do they have wipers on those face protectors? What if it rains or water is sprayed on them? Those protesters have to pick hot days …… ??
Do you think the elite care if a riot policeman has a stroke wearing one of those outfits? NO….
the police will be protesting themselves soon… maybe…
