Aurora Massacre: “Sources Say” Jounalism from CALL 7 “Investigators”

by Scott Creighton

All across the internet “news’ sites, people are writing about University of Colorado psychiatrist Lynne Fenton and whether or not she did enough to warn authorities about the potential danger of her patient, James Holmes. According to all the reports, Fenton contacted the threat assessment team at the school 10 days or so before the shooting and they did nothing because Holmes was in the process of dropping out of class.

Pundits and scribes debate the actions of the school and Fenton and everyone in between, keeping the story in the headlines, and his guilt readily accepted as fact. That’s why the story was put out there; to convict him in the court of public opinion.

But there’s one little problem… the story is based entirely on nothing… unnamed sources speaking about specific evidence of a case that the judge has declared sealed.

One more little problem, the story comes from ABC “News”, the same people who deliberately misrepresented the quote from Holmes’ mother to imply that she was saying he did it.

Here is the original story written by Arthur Kane and John Ferrugia , CALL7 Investigators.  Notice, they call themselves “investigators”. That’s funny. Here’s their proof:

“Sources Tell… sources with knowledge…. sources told… Sources say… sources say… a source said… Sources did not know… said one source… said another source… One source also… Sources familiar with the investigation… Sources also say… sources say… ” Call 7 “Investigators”

The “investigators” over at Call 7 (ABC “NEWS” in Denver) cited this (these?) unnamed sources 13 times in their short article published this past Wednesday.

I wonder if their “sources” are the same sources who came out with the “stick figure drawing” confession story? Remember, the prosecution stated in court that those sources had it completely wrong and they hadn’t even opened the package before the story was published.

There is literally no way to verify anything in the CALL 7 “News” article with the exception of the one person they directly quote:

“Michael Carrigan, chairman of the CU Board of Regents, told CALL7 Investigators that he did not know if Holmes had ever been discussed by the BETA team.”It’s the first I’m hearing about this,” he said in a phone interview.” Call 7 “Investigators”

It’s interesting that someone would feed these idiots this story knowing full well that they are violation of the judges’ gag order. By doing so they are risking serious jail time and potentially the loss of their license to practice law.

Makes one wonder why such a non-issue story is worth such a risk.

Perhaps it’s because whomever fed  these two stenographers this drivel knows that once they publish it, every single “news” agency out there will uncritically report on it as fact, simply citing back to their totally unsupported article as proof.

Or perhaps, ABC “News” just made the story up like they did with the misquote from James Holmes’ mother.

  1. From every report I am seeing lately on all the news channels in the US and abroad, and in the newspapers, the focus is on Holmes as a ‘psycho’ and his doctor…all conversations just non-chalant say what a terrible thing he did and so on – He has already been tried and convicted in the media. There is no chance for real justice to work at all.

    • I couldn’t have said it better myself!

    • A couple days ago, the day they retracted the spitting on guards report, Inside Edition still ran with it, they didn’t give a damn. They said everybody in jail was calling him Hannibal Holmes and he was wearing that Hannibal Lechter mask.

I believe that the reason they don’t like saying his name on the more legit news sources, is so that they don’t get sued as much in the libel and slander cases if Holmes beats his case. If he wins his trial, he will be a very, very wealthy man once the libel suits get settled.

  2. Here is a link I found that may be of use to you in your site and exemplary research into the shooting.
    http://www.wbal.com/article/92642/3/template-story/Holmies-Rally-In-Support-Of-Colorado-Killer
In that link they are trying to label us all as “supporters” of James Holmes. What this does is lumps anyone who questions the official story into “supporters” of him. This happens all the time!
Oh well, I’ve never cared too much what people think of me anyhow!
Again, thanks for all the time and energy you dedicate to helping shed more light on the issue!

    • I personally believe Holmes was in on it, and he is using this event to fake his death to work on secret projects, but he obviously had help including a professional shooter. If Holmes is in on this, he is just as guilty as the shooter.

I love how everything is either one or the other with society. If you’re not with us, you’re against us. If you’re against Alex Jones, you’re with the official fable. If you think the witnesses aren’t fake, you are with the government. etc, etc, etc. It’s bullshit.

      • I completely agree with you although I’m not sure yet how much he was really involved. A lot of the evidence (so far) points to him being framed maybe?
As far as him faking his death, I really have no answer to that…
You’re right that the media, and the public at large all see the issue in a binary fashion…the jury found him guilty in the court of public opinion. That is why we (just average (somewhat) “normal” people who question inconsistencies) are being painted in such a way as to immediately divide the pubic opinion into only 2 groups. You’ll notice that is how politics work…

      • It’s quite possible. It’s also possible that the guy they arrested isn’t Holmes, just some drugged up dupe half-wit who has literally no idea what is happening to him. But the story is filled with contradicting evidence. If he was in on it, why warn the cops about the traps at the apartment (if there were indeed traps set)? Why would he be drugged in the car? Clearly someone that whacked out might be considered incapable of committing such an act. So why do it? Why would they have to gag him while around other prisoners or guards? If he is in on it, he wouldn’t be a threat to say something to someone that would give it away. His behavior in court did seem to me to be a performance but that could also have been some kind of drug they have him on. It’s possible that someone contacted him and offered him some kind of job which he would have needed that gear for. It’s possible that he thought the operation was one thing, and then it changed suddenly, turned on him. I guess it is also possible that he’s just batshit crazy, but the facts of the case tend to contradict that scenario.

  3. Right on! What we’re seeing is not evidence, nor an investigation; it’s a smear campaign! It’s a constant slew of hearsay and news stories, deliberately misdirecting attention away from the weaknesses in the case, determined to sway public opinion and undermine any possibility the suspect could have of a fair an unbiased trial.

Yes, what happened was atrocious. Yes, we want to ensure nothing of that nature happens again. Yes, we want the perpetrator(s) to be made responsible for their crimes. Yes, we want the victims and their families to find relief and closure in truth. Anything other than that would be the biggest tragedy of all.

Now that the case is sealed, we can assume that what comes quoted by “sources” to be either fabricated or a serious breach of the law.

If you still feel the urge to hear from “sources”, put your ear on the counter of your local pasta shop. There, you’ll find just as big variety of genuine tomato, that is, something that appears to be one thing but is actually something else.

If you found that last sentence funny, go to urban dictionary and look up ‘tomato can’, I think that’s what’s going on here too…

    • The case is sealed because James Holmes would probably end up winning the court of opinion once everybody sees how high the bullshit is really stacked up in this story. Isn’t that what happened with OJ? He did it, but the cops planted that glove on him, then that botched the trial?

  4. …at the end of the day, whether he was involved in some way and to what degree doesn’t change the fact that this “investigation” is an absolute disgrace. Regular people on a blog should not be responsible for putting together the pieces which law enforcement conveniently sweeps under the rug.

  5. Well said sunshinez!

  6. Is there evidence on tape/radio of him actually “saying” he booby-trapped the apartment? Aren’t we inferring that bit? That in itself could have been planted info “released” to accomplish an agenda of the event.

Its been awhile since I dropped back by to review this case, but Scott and others have pointed out massive discrepancies and inconsistencies. At this point, I’m finding it interesting to stand back and watch the M.O. of “how” a “story” is marketed and sold. It seems a lot of the same types of propaganda, usage of MSM to plant, develop, demonize, sell, and set up rabbit trails are quite similar to 9/11 and others. The demonizing aspect is old hat. In fact, a lot of this is rote and replay. Watching how things are conducted (or not, say, investigated properly, or doors closed for “security” reasons) are tells in this poker game of psychos.

Figuring Holmes part in the Play may end up having to be done by deduction or other methods. Gee, Too Bad nobody wants to show the surveillance tapes, aye?

    Nice Work Scott and Crew!

    • Hard evidence of him actually saying anything, let alone him walking into the theater or being arrested by the cops? Never.

  7. I tried posting a response but it looks like it disappeared…anywho, in this article “some one who know James” tries to give a little bit truer picture of how he was in HS. It will be lost to most people who are only hearing what the MSM is pushing about him. The last sentence of the quote is a little damning anyhow.

“By the way, he was never teased to the point where he got bullied. He was geeky because he was smart, true. Some people made fun of him because of that but he was not an outcast. Everyone gets teased a little in their lifetime. He was introverted. He was smart. He was quiet. BUT he had friends. He would talk to people. He was athletic. He wouldn’t date not because no one wanted to be with him but because HE showed no interest in dating. There were a ton of geeks at his high school because it was a school that really focused on academics. A little teasing is no excuse to kill people.”

  8. Here is an article that came up on my news search regarding the matter. Not sure how credible The Examiner are, but at least it is something…http://www.examiner.com/article/government-targets-batman-james-holmes-pawn-batman-shootings

  9. Is there a plan to claim that he is psycho; a pretext for excuse or a light sentence?! Also, I wonder why authorities always blunder in the USA in such a way making things and criminals become like mercury easily slipping through the fingers. What has become of the old USA?!

  10. Thank you for having and running this site. I have a question I would like to ask you all. I have just watched a Youtube video where an 18 year old witness claims that her friend was shot in the mouth while watching the movie in theatre 8. Now, the media are trying to make that the bullet must have gone through the wall from theatre 9 to theatre 8. Does anyone here know what theatre walls are actually made of? Is it possible for a bullet to be able to get through the wall? I would think the walls would be rather solid just for sound proofing alone. If this has already been discussed I apologise. Thanks.

    • Good question. I think others have mentioned that the weapons used wouldn’t be powerful enough to actually hurt anyone in the other theater but I can’t be sure about that. I tried googling movie theater soundproofing and found this on a company’s website

      http://www.quietrock.com/project-gallery/industry-solutions/theatres.html

“Most movie theater designers meet these requirements by using lots of mass, such as poured concrete walls. Then they add a separate row of studs of each side with at least two layers of drywall. While this design works, it is very expensive and takes a lot of time to build.

Modern engineered damped drywall panels allow for a much easier design. And because QuietRock 545 hangs just like standard drywall, construction can go much faster than the standard poured concrete method. Faster construction means less labor and less money needed to build a new theater.”

I think that particular theater was renovated not too long ago so can’t be sure…

  11. Thank sunshinez. I guess it would depend on when the movie theatre was built. I would guess the building blue prints, who built it, who designed it etc etc will come into play in this trial too. All new movies theatres will now have to be bullet proof now.

  12. thought I already posted this but it seems to have vanished?

So no other words, just thought it was a good read.

  13. How deep the rabbit hole goes! This particular drug used to be sold, in very low dose form, over the counter for sea-sickness. It is given to astronauts for (“ahem”) the same reason. It is routinely used by anesthesiologists when people unexpectedly awaken during surgery because it abolishes recent memory, so they will have no memory of the intense pain that they experienced. (Although they had been screaming in pain at the time, anyway.) Its OTHER effects are never mentioned in typical medical journals, for some reason or other… The drug is SCOPOLOMINE! Watch the videos. See what it can really do!

This is NOT supposed to be known to doctors, nor to the public!

  14. Entirely possible that these two events are completely unrelated. However, it does seem odd that a homeless man would have 2 weapons confiscated (a shotgun and a rifle). Then, a few weeks later, he has managed to compile another stash of weapons, including a shotgun, a handgun, and 5,800 rounds of ammo, that the police again confiscated. Just after Aurora. But again, who knows. Could be I’m reading too much into it.

    http://www.ktvu.com/news/news/crime-law/homeless-man-arrested-stash-weapons-talks-about-li/nP7rb/

    • The homeless man said: “He also said he is a member of the military special forces and has two birthdates. He claimed the bricks of ammo were given to him in Reno as a birthday gift.”
He said the weapons were a collection… it is his hobby… collectibles….

  15. TPTB are now using the “Batman Shooter” to hype a domestic IED threat. http://blog.chron.com/txpotomac/2012/07/texas-and-u-s-facing-growing-threat-of-domestic-ieds/

    • I saw that. Very interesting that the head of the agency which is pushing to change Posse Comitatus, testified before congress in the middle of July.. just before this happened.

  16. It’s not just ABC that has a limitless imagination. You’ll love this trumped up news from CBS…

In the above clip, the consummate John Miller describes how “investigators” in the case “want” to use every bit of hi-tech available in analyzing the crime scene.

They cut to a 3D modeling of the theater interior in the style of GTA, complete with androgynous crash-dummies running from the path of bullets. Then the graphic titling reads “Investigators Work to Recreate Shooting Scene”.

So, I bop over to the company that makes the software, ARAS 360. They have a press release there, plainly stating it was CBS that contacted them about whipping up some hi-tech, CSI bling!
    http://www.aras360.com/corporate/news.html

Had I not bothered to listen carefully and check the claim, I would have thought investigators were “actually” using this software to model the scene! Turns out it was just John Miller joshin’ around.

  17. Wasn’t John Miller the guy who interviewed bin Laden in a cave in Afghanistan when he was wanted by the FBI? That guy seems like he has a real chummy relationship with intelligence agencies.

  18. This article by the Denver Post describes the academic rigors of Holmes’ PhD program and mentions that students spend about 60 hours a week on labs and lectures and coursework. It states that PhD candidates in this program have no time to work jobs, which is why rare, promising student like Holmes were awarded a 20K+ stipend for living expenses. The article also sheds more light on the purported “oral exam” that James would have had to take at the end of his first year, but describes it not as a test but as kind of a progress review–this makes me seriously question reports that Holmes “failed” an “oral exam” and went bonkers as a result.

Also, according to the article as well as a course syllabus/calendar I’ve seen, Holmes was scheduled to present/lecture in May 2012 on microRNA biomarkers. The article also claims that only six out of 100 or so applicants were accepted into Holmes’ program, and it further describes his completion of an undergraduate honors program in his field–no mean feat.

As someone who has been through grad school myself (although not in the field of science), I can tell you that there is VERY little time outside of one’s studies to pursue leisure activities, work, etc. Having taken a few undergraduate honors courses, too, I can attest that Holmes was likely a very busy man during his first four years of school, as well. This leads me to my question:

Where, when, and how does a guy like Holmes, who seemed to spend what little leisure time he likely had playing guitar hero and “strategy games” (I’m thinkin’ like Warhammer 40k), teach himself, in the TWO MONTHS between classes ending and the shooting, (1) to effectively wield the arsenal of weapons he allegedly amassed, and (2) to learn how to build bombs the likes of which authorities haven’t seen outside of Afghanistan???

I think that if Holmes were secretly studying bombs and weapons while a student, he wouldn’t have even made it all the way to May/June in his PhD program, and I doubt he would have even finished his honors undergraduate program.

No matter how intuitive you are as a student or how easy it is to understand your subject matter, the fact is there are papers, labs, presentations, and research studies that you must complete–all of which consume an enormous amount of time. If this dude committed the crimes he is accused of, then he is not only a murderer but also a time efficiency expert.

    http://www.denverpost.com/theatershooting/ci_21238561/holmes-part-intellectual-elite-before-aurora-theater-massacre

    • That’s a very good question. How did this guy learn to use these weapons in such a manner that he could keep his head and kill so many with no training and no experience that we know of?

    • I also read that it was the written test that he failed. He had yet to take the oral test. If he then proved himself in that oral test he would have passed the first year anyway…so not all was lost in that regard.

  19. One other question that has plagued me since I read it (although it may be insignificant):

The person who had a beer with Holmes three or four days before the shooting said Holmes wore glasses and carried a backpack (obviously, if the guy remembered these details, then Holmes hair wasn’t orange at the time or he would have mentioned it).

What was the backpack for? I mean, he was no longer taking classes at that point, and I don’t know any guys who carry backpacks to their local bar (unless maybe he was on his way to/from the gym?).

The backpack is just an odd detail that has stuck out in my mind since the beginning, because it suggests engagement in some sort of activity and perhaps Holmes’ frame of mind in the days leading up to the shooting. Leisure reading? Studies? Gym clothes? Laptop?

    • or maybe he hadn’t dropped out

      • I am beginning to think that too willyloman. If all was not lost in his exams why would he drop out before he gave the oral exam?

        • Now I am trying to find something on the internet saying that he had not yet taken his oral exam but they are all now saying that he did. I distinctly remember the news here (Australia) saying he failed the written but had yet to take the oral….

  20. In my quest for information regarding the Aurora massacre & James Holmes, I came across a very disturbing article concerning the robbery of a Wells Fargo Bank in Aurora on June 2, 2012 and the actions of the Aurora police dept.
Apparently, on a tip, the police blocked an intersection and stopped upwards of two dozen cars. They removed and HANDCUFFED the adult occupants of all of the vehicles and at GUNPOINT requested “permission” to search each vehicle. They detained men, women & children for up to two hours until they found & apprehended the bank robber. This police dept., under the charge of Chief Oats, blatantly violated the fourth amendment rights of every citizen that happened to be driving or riding in a vehicle in that intersection on that day within the two hour time frame. Imagine being stopped at gunpoint by police officers, told to get out of your car, be HANDCUFFED in front of your children & detained on the side of the road for 2 hours while the police search for a bank robber. In defence of his department, Chief Oats reply was “the end justifies the means”. In other words, we can & will & its ok to violate your fourth amendment rights as long as we get the bad guy in the end. I had not heard or read about this incident or the inconceivable actions of the Aurora police force & just happened to come across it. How is it even possible that the chief of police & the officers involved still have jobs? This, unbelievably, is the same police dept. that was satisfied that James Holmes was the only shooter on the night of the theater shooting! What the heck is going on in Aurora Co.?

    • These people are crooks, nothing more, nothing less. “The end justifies the means”? I thought constitutional rights were sacred, but I guess not anymore. I’m not surprised that Oates would be fine with pinning the shooting on James and James only, as long as he can say him and his minions got the perp it will be a job well done for him and he won’t have to go down in history as the police chief who messed up in the biggest mass shooting case in US history.

The famous Benjamin Franklin quote comes to mind: “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

    • What the heck is going on in America! Seriously. How can this happen and not be heard? Did they get their bank robber in the end?

      • Yes, they did. But thats not the point. This happened less than 8 weeks before the theater shooting. No job losses, no job suspensions, no media ranting about it. Why? If this police dept can get away with it, what else have they gotten with? What else will they get away with? Why were they so zealous about apprehending a bank robber that hurt no one yet, so seemingly nonchallant about pursuing other probable suspects the night of a shooting when there were so many victims?

    • We talked about this on a mom’s board that I’m on right after it happened. It was about 50/50 with people being fine with it and others saying hell no. Most of the people who were ok with it said they had “nothing to hide” so they wouldn’t mind being serched (maybe hey missed the part about being pulled out of their car at gunpoint??) One person pointed them to this article, which is a long read, but good.

      http://chronicle.com/article/Why-Privacy-Matters-Even-if/127461/

People also pointed out that the armed robber was in one of the last cars to be searched so thy could’ve seen what was happening and tried shooting their way out of it. It was also mentioned that there was a GPS device in the money, which is how the police knew the person was at the intersection, so why not follow them a little further rather than detaining all these people? So f’d up.

      • It’s sad how people have been conditioned to accept this kind of invasion of privacy and rights. It’s been a slow but steady process.

I have absolutely no idea how anyone would be ok with being apprehended by police at gunpoint without any reason to suspect wrongdoing.

    • You know, I wrote about that just after it happened. I am going to go back and look at that again. It’s a VERY good find Curious. Very interesting coincidence.

      • There is also something else that leaves me wondering. I read somewhere that prior to the shooting, there had been a drill enacted out in Aurora coincidently, involving a mock theater shooting. This drill was for the purpose of training official & medical responders in the event of a mass castrophy such as the one that actually did occur. If i remember correctly, this drill was held not too long before the night of the shooting. If that is in fact the case, why did it take so long for ambulances to arrive at the theater? Why was there a such a lack of coordination among the munincipalities in getting ambulances to that theater to aid the victims? I read that one ambulance co. in particular did’nt even get a call for about a half hour after police arrived at the theater. Is’nt it the purpose of conducting these types drills to train first responders & medical personnel to know exactly what to do & when to do it as well as to pre-coordinate with surrounding towns official & medical response teams to be prepared for an emergency to insure that response times are as expedient as possible? If in fact, there actually was this type of drill conducted, what happened to the ambulances? Why did the police have to transport victims to the hospital instead of securing the area & looking for other possible suspects?

        • From what I saw on the articles explaining the super slow response, the cops were keeping them back away from that back side of the theater. You hear officers on the ground calling for ambulances around back, it must have been overridden by the higher ups or something.

          • they would keep the first responders from that area until the suspect was secured. Also, if you note the transcripts of the police that night, they had police reporting they had conflicting descriptions of the shooter which lead them to believe there was more than one. Since they only had one in custody, it makes sense they would keep the responders and victims out of the back area til they secured the other or swept the area to assure there was no immediate danger. Remember, they were still putting out descriptions of the guy in the blue and white plaid shirt well after they had discovered Holmes drugged up in the car. Obviously the second gas mask lying back there would also lead them to fear another shooter on the loose.

        • Why would be such a drill shortly before incident unless the incident was preconceived. Coincident. I do not think so.

          • it’s funny how these incidents always have drills that recreate the same tragedy on the same day or shortly before…

  21. Drill! To me it sounds like the circumstances surrounding 9/11
