I never promote anything on this site and I’m certainly not paid to do this but after all the time I have spent flushing out the steady stream of sophomoric, ham-handed propaganda coming out of Hollywood these days, it’s nice to sit back and present this extended trailer for a film that appears to be written at above a 6th grader’s comprehension level which would appear to present an idea wholly different that the “dog eat dog” ideology of neo-liberalism and libertarianism and corporatism that we are fed day in and day out. It’s nice every now and again, to focus on art that lifts rather than degrades. According to the directors it took them a year to get a Hollywood studio to distribute the film. It was funded by German companies… apparently no one with cash in the US wanted to make it.

The book *really rocks*, Dave Mitchell rocks – I hope they did it justice! It’s great on debt slavery, constructed realities, falsification of events and social control, the hubris and downfall of societies, and more. Not in any serious analytical way, but more as a mythopoeic dreamlike sequence of vignettes. However, I believe we also need art to help us understand the broader context of our times, for inspiration, for communication with others, and to occasionally lift us out of our depressing world of news and gritty political discourse.
Number 9 Dream by the same author is also really great.
Supposedly it is nearly 3 hours long. I look forward to seeing it.
certainly looks promising and interesting.. but i wouldn’t be surprised if the plot wasn’t sacrificed and altered in some way in order to get it on the big screen. this is, afterall, what happened with the matrix films.
The trailer looked quite promising, I saw several key plot points that were clearly being kept intact, so I hope at least the spirit of the original will come through…
Yuk it’s got Tom Hanks in it, I find him annoying. Still, the trailer looks promising, it’s no small feat to make a movie from a book with 5 highly devious interwoven plots all occurring in different eras!

Yeah. I don’t know if he has a personal political agenda. However since “Philadelphia”, he comes across as having an extreme case of narcissistic personality disorder, and seems to have developed some kind of unpleasant messianic Jesus-complex. I guess he just uncritically takes whatever pretentious “good guy” role they shove his way. So what do I know, I never met the guy, maybe it’s nothing to do with his personality and he’s simply typecast….

A Dershowitz-Portman connection eh? No I did not know that! The guy is slime. I have good Lebanese, Pakistani, Palestinian, Iraqi, Turkish and Kurdish friends, who all happen to be extremely intelligent, civilised, moderate and secularist, and very kind and peace-loving individuals. Having both Muslim *and* Jewish friends is extremely common, and in fact almost unavoidable growing up in London. It serves as good inoculation against right-wing Israeli/US propaganda.

Yeah, Hanks may or may not be aware of what lies hes selling but the people casting him are aware of his reputation as a “well liked” and trusted actor. And yes, Portman is a flaming racist zionist:

It is at Harvard where Portman would first become a vital asset to the usurping Zionist entity’s global machinations. It is at Harvard, the prestigious educational powerhouse that gave a platform to genocidal “Israeli” WINEP warmonger and Shalem College President Martin Kramer, who opined that Palestinian births should be “curbed (16),” where Portman served as a research assistant to none other than Alan Dershowitz (17), one of the most vocal, visible and voluminously vile proponents of Zionism in America. Apart from being a hardline Zionist that thinks defending “Israel” is a “secular religion,” Dershowitz is also an arch Jewish supremacist who believes “fighting for Jewish survival against their enemies is a sacred mission” and who revels in the dominance of Jews in entertainment and media (18). The “research” Portman provided to Dershowitz was for his hasbara extravaganza, “The Case for Israel,” a work since beaten to a pulp and debunked by Norman Finkelstein in “Beyond Chutzpah” but nevertheless, still touted in Zionist circles.
