BBC world news editor: Houla massacre coverage based on opposition propaganda

from WSWS

As quietly as possible, BBC world news editor Jon Williams has admitted that the coverage of last month’s Houla massacre in Syria by the world’s media and his own employers was a compendium of lies.

Datelined 16:23, June 7, Williams chose a personal blog to make a series of fairly frank statements explaining that there was no evidence whatsoever to identify either the Syrian Army or Alawite militias as the perpetrators of the May 25 massacre of 100 people.

By implication, Williams also suggests strongly that such allegations are the product of the propaganda department of the Sunni insurgents seeking to overthrow Bashar al-Assad.

  1. journalist Anhar Kochneva reports on HOMS

‘Especially kidnappings are more and more a part of the dirty business of “Free Syrian Army” (FSA) and of the associated armed gangs.’

freedom fighters? peaceful protestors? or criminal gangs backed by Riyadh Washington and Telaviv?

  2. Why didn’t Chris Marsden include a link or at least a reference to the personal blog where Jon Williams allegedly posted the comments? It would seem to be a simple but important detail to include.
I’d like to think this is real but more importantly, I’d like to be able to hold that proof under the noses of my local disbelievers who just cannot fathom that the mainstream media would ever tell a lie.

    • I’ve noticed that mainstream journalists rarely post links to anything they write about. It’s as if they feel that just them writing this stuff should be enough for everyone to accept what they say as gospel truth. Perhaps they are so used to lying about everything they write, they simply don’t know what the LINK button is for.

    • But just so you know….. it’s a blog run by the BBC for their editors… here is the link to the June 7th blog in question.

      • Thanks, Scott.

Besides the Houla massacre reporting, I’m amazed that Williams accepted the “diplomats” word that the mobile phone system was taken down to prevent students from cheating on an exam. Sorry, but I’m not buying that!
