NATO Forces Bomb Afghan School by “Accident”, Kill 30 “Suspects” – Obama “Pleased” With C.I.A. Run Afghan War

by Scott Creighton

Here’s a bit of luck for you. A day before the Obama administration is going to make public their redacted review of the war in Afghanistan, it is being reported that  NATO airstrikes in that country “accidentally” hit a school and killed 30 people overall (who have yet to be officially identified).  But not to worry, our puppet governor of that area says everything is just fine…

“In a series of air strikes launched yesterday in the Baghlan Province in northern Afghanistan, the NATO forces destroyed a public school as well as killing 30 “suspected Taliban militants,” according to the provincial governor.

The governor termed the attack on the school an “accident,” and so far there have been no reports of civilian casualties from that particular attack.” AntiWar

“A rocket fired by NATO aircraft destroyed a school, but there were no immediate claims of civilian casualties, the governor said.” M&C

The military assault was what is being called a “clearing operation”. That’s where the U.S. and NATO forces rush into an area like a little village, and they quickly set up a base camp while a couple “teams” go out into the surrounding homes, searching them, and looking for things from weapons to “propaganda”. They round-up the “evil doers” and when it’s all done, they pat themselves on the back for making the area “clean” just like that little person did in Poltergeist.  “This house is clean”

“After setting security and beginning construction, the unit launched into the counter-insurgency operation.

Marine squads, partnered with the Afghan National Army, swept across the surrounding farmland and engaged the local populace one compound at a time.

Local villagers in the area embraced the Marines, welcoming them into their homes and allowing them to search for weapons, bomb-making materials, contraband and Taliban propaganda.” Marines Website

I like how the propagandists for the Marines use the word “compound” for “home” and described the villagers as “welcoming” the soldiers into their homes when anyone with any common sense knows that if they refused, the soldiers would put them in black bags and ransack their homes anyway. “Welcoming”… that’s nice.

It was apparently on one of these “welcoming” tours that NATO forces killed 30 people, um, “suspects”, and accidentally blew up a school. Let’s HOPE that school was out because the last thing Obama needs right now (and let’s face it, the ONLY thing “progressives” give a shit about these days is Obama’s Poll Numbers, well that and genetically modified food because it’s a safe cause that can’t embarrass the anointed one too much) is yet ANOTHER pile of dead children killed by his “right war”.

““The fact that so many of the victims were actually women and children indicates that the attack was in fact grossly irresponsible, particularly given the likely use of cluster munitions,” Luther said.” AE

But true to form, while there are still grieving people in Afghanistan picking up the pieces (literally) after our latest clearing mission, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs is out in front of the new cycle, right on que.

Gibbs termed President Obama ‘pleased’ with the war, and insisted that he hopes to “strengthen capacity inside of Afghanistan” going forward. President Obama was said to have met with advisors earlier today regarding the war.

Gibbs was quite short of evidence of the “progress” in the Afghan War, insisting only that it was “obvious.” AntiWar

Yes, it is obvious that the “right war” is going well in Afghanistan, only a fool wouldn’t see it. On that note, the National Intelligence Estimate came out claiming that the war in Afghanistan is not going all that well. They are claiming that we are not making much progress and of course it’s not our fault, but Pakistan’s.  Of course, that estimate is based on the intelligence agencies understanding of the war, but what do they know?

“But in Afghanistan, the intelligence agencies play a strong role, with the largest Central Intelligence Agency station since the Vietnam War located in Kabul. C.I.A. operatives also command an Afghan paramilitary force in the thousands. In Pakistan, the C.I.A. is running a covert war using drone aircraft.”  MSNBC

Ah… the good old days. Remember back in the day when the C.I.A. had to run their death squads in secret? Remember back in those days before the Church Committee and the “family Jewels” went public?  But that was back before 9/11 which of course meant that the C.I.A. gets to run death squads right out in the open, drag dissidents off because they have “propaganda” in their homes (um… I mean “compounds”), and spy on you and me in wholesale fashion.

“22 December 1974, when The New York Times published a lengthy article by Seymour Hersh detailing operations engaged in by the Central Intelligence Agency over the years that had been dubbed the “family jewels”. Covert action programs involving assassination attempts against foreign leaders and covert attempts to subvert foreign governments were reported for the first time. In addition, the article discussed efforts by intelligence agencies to collect information on the political activities of US citizens“  Church Committee

Those days are long gone now. Now-a-days U.S. citizens stand quietly by while TSA flunkies grope their children’s “junk” right in front of them, ’cus it’s better than getting blown up on a plane, now isn’t it?  Soon enough those same TSA flunkies will be roaming through the malls grabbing kids crotches, but that’s better than getting blown up at Hot Topic, now isn’t it?

I wonder how long it will be before they start running clearing missions in Iowa or Nebraska, or Lynchburg, Va.? Gotta be some “compounds” that have “propaganda” in those areas as well, right? The FBI is steady finding those “terrorists” here in the U.S. just as fast as they can make a fake bomb or two. Shouldn’t be long now till we are as safe as those Afghani villagers welcoming the C.I.A. run troops into our homes.   Gotta make the world safe for democracy, you know.

But all of that is down the road a bit, well, unless you’re an insurgent peace activist. In that case, the game’s already afoot…

“Friday morning, I awoke to a bang at the door, and by the time I was downstairs, there were six or seven federal agents already in my home, where my partner and my six-year-old daughter had already been awake. We were given the search warrant, and they went through the entire house. They spent probably about four hours going through all of our personal belongings, every book, paper, our clothes, and filled several boxes and crates with our computers, our phones, my passport. And when they were done, as I said, they had many crates full of my personal belongings, with which they left my house.” Jess Sundin

God knows we can’t have those insurgent peace activists running around with their propaganda, like their copies of the constitution, which threaten the all important “right war” that Peace Prize winner President Obama himself is pleased with. The war in Afghanistan is doing  just fine, thank you. A blown up school here, some dead kids there, this is the price other people have to pay for our “freedoms”, don’t you know.

“At no point in his comments did Gibbs mention the open letter from a collection of foreign policy experts warning that the war is going extremely poorly, and those comments are expected to be kept far from the official speech by President Obama on Thursday.”

  1. For Americans, lives of others are cheap!

Just a few $ in compensation. They are worth less than the fuel used in the operation and far less than the ammunition!

“Not in my name” no longer cuts it!

  2. When the time comes; when ‘down the road a bit’ actually gets here with purpose, if our CIA-commanded paramilitary forces use big, White, 4-wheel drive, crew-cab pick-up trucks with smoked windows, maned by local war vets, firemen, deputies, and other who wannabe, not many are going to want to question what they do–not for a while, anyway.

It’s happened pretty much like this before, and pretty much all round the world. Now, looks like it’s bound to happen here.

  3. I believe the quote only said that Obama was pleased with the war, not with its progress. Who doesn’t find a good war to be pleasing. The military industrial complex is purring like a kitten with the splendor of it all and everyone on the Security Council agrees that this war is just the right mix of slaughter and mayhem without being too overzealous as to actually try to bring it to an end. Their definition of winning in war is perpetuation. Good show Obama. I can see why you’re so pleased.

So, everyone keep a pot of tea on and put a pie in the oven so you’ll be prepared to welcome the Marines. They’ll need to keep up their strength for the long days of ransacking and interrogation. Gotta support your troops.
