*** conclusions drawn in recent investigation and review of the evidence by Gregory Elich published by CounterPunch on July 28th, 2010… The Sinking of the Cheonan and its Political Uses

“Did a North Korean submarine fire a torpedo at the Cheonan? I do not know, but it seems improbable. If it was a torpedo that sank the Cheonan, then it certainly was not the one that the JIG put on display…

While reviewing the evidence, it began to appear to me that the most likely cause of the Cheonan’s sad fate was having had the misfortune to inadvertently sail into the path of a sea mine, and this feeling has only been strengthened by the reports of the Russian investigation team’s findings.” Gregory Elich

  3. thanks Kay. that is an enlightening op ed. i am surprised to see such a frank discussion of the conclusions drawn by the JIG in the Times as well as anything short of outright disrespect when mentioning the great unmentionable ex-president, Jimmy Carter.

I knew that the Russian investigation had concluded a mine sunk the Cheonan after running aground and losing rudder control and I think that is probably the most likely conclusion that many researchers have also come to here in the states and all over the world.

however, i think that the author tends to assign a most benign intent to the current administration and the current administration in South Korea, when evidence really doesn’t merit it.

also, the Russians aren’t keeping their mouths shut to keep from embarrassing Obama… they are doing so to keep from exposing Hillary Clinton’s involvement in the frame-up. Obama could easily distance himself and the rest of his administration from the falsifications of the JIG report since he wasn’t there.

of course it would cost Hillary her job and her future in politics… and probably so taint the Clinton name, that her daughter’s political career would be over before it started. This is an oligarchy, remember.

overall its a good op ed and one that I didn’t expect in the Times… thanks for the link.
