The assault on US workers’ wages

An article published in Wednesday’s Financial Times under the headline “US Matches Indian Call Centre Costs” gives some indication of the impact on American workers of a coordinated and escalating wage-cutting drive by big business, backed by the Obama administration.

The article begins: “Call centre workers are becoming as cheap to hire in the US as they are in India, according to the head of the country’s largest business process outsourcing company. High unemployment levels have driven down wages for some low-skilled outsourcing services in some parts of the US, particularly among the Hispanic population.”

According to the article, a number of Indian outsourcing firms are shifting operations to the US to take advantage of low labor costs, a reversal from the 1990s when many call centers and software firms shuttered American operations to exploit educated but low-paid workers in India.

Of course, Baer also stated that Iran bombed Pan Am Flight 103 after it was shown that the Libyan who was framed for it by the CIA (another fake Libyan bomb plot) could not have been guilty of the horrendous crime. Perhaps Baer just forgot to mention the CIA heroin connection…

Yes, President Peace Prize is living up to just one of his campaign promises, of sorts, and pulling out the last of the “combat troops” in Iraq today (what other kinds of “troops” do we have? Interior decorator troops? Wal-Mart Iraq Greeter Troops?).

Oh well, I shouldn’t say that, he did promise to escalate the illegal occupation of Afghanistan and bleed it over into Pakistan searching for the zombie Bin Laden and he is delivering on that promise; and while we are talking about it, he did promise to pump his White House full of industry insiders who would give our nation away to the corporations that own this nation and all us “little people” who happen to call it home, and he stayed true to his word there. And he did promise to illegally bomb women and children into subservient submission in Yemen in order to help prop-up our failing corrupt dictator in that country while he also promised to shield the previous war criminals of the Cheney administration from prosecution, expand warrentless  wiretaps all across the country, hand over more and more money to the greedy corporate masters in the guise of a “Stimulus Package”, and he did promise to declare that he is the first president EVER with the divine right to kill U.S. citizens for no other apparent reason than he (and more importantly, Hillary Clinton) thinks it just might be a good idea to shut them the f*** up.

I mean, he did make all those promises back then as well right? Or am I missing something?

Anyway… today the “news” is that President Strike a Pose is claiming “victory” just a few short weeks away from the midterm elections  and that he has “ended” the Iraq “war”.  Uh… yippie?
