***UPDATE*** You might not believe this, but David Swanson actually wrote an article about this topic, about how Beck may actually be “the best antiwar voice on tv”. He ran around spaming it up on progressive sites like Op Ed News (where it is still the mainpage headline) and Firedoglake. But remarkably, he completely misses the main point of Becks interview… the need to run the Pentagon through civilian leadership, just like a business, and without congressional oversight. For a constitutional expert like Swanson is, I find it hard to believe that he would completely miss that aspect of what Beck was saying. Beck also said clearly that we had reason to attack Afghanistan (911) which of course we didn’t even if you believe the official conspiracy theory, Afghanistan didn’t attack us, a small group of people did (if you believe that drivel). That is not justification for the destruction of a nation state according to international law. Swanson seemed to miss that part of Becks piece as well.
I have to admit, after watching Glenn Beck’s horribly acted “weeping backstage” scene in his first “populist” show way back when Obama first took office, I never thought the guy would ever become this slick. But I was wrong.
Take, for example, this latest twist from Mr. Beck that caught-up the “progressive” icon David Swanson in Beck’s Rainmaker swindle. Apparently David Swanson is thinking he and Beck and even Dennis Kucinich are on the same page when it comes to defense spending. Wow. What a difference a year makes, huh? Either Beck has become a lot slicker or Swanson is spending a little too much time thinking about his next speaking engagement.
This was pegged to the front of David Swanson’s After Downing Street website, a former bastion of liberal ideals.
Though the title of the segment deals with “cutting defense spending” it actually ends up arguing for the privatization of the entire Pentagon budget and the UNCONSTITUTIONAL removal of congressional control. Think that is what Dennis Kucinch stands for David?
Let me explain how this little ‘bait and switch” trick Glenn Beck used actually works and how it is nothing more than an open call for the neo-liberalization of the Pentagon and more importantly, the Pentagon BUDGET.
