Just Plain Stupid

Mr. President, millions of the “decent people”, the “intelligent people”, the “sane people” are just plain stupid and as dumb as rocks, as they proudly display the empty arrogance of your average Barney Fife.
They will continue to support your neoliberal dismantling of this nation, of our quality of life, of our standards of living… all because they simply can’t separate themselves from the product association created by marketing professionals working as political consultants these days. They will continue to support you and your Council on Foreign Relations member wife no matter what direction you lead this country, no matter how much it is a continuation of the worst parts of the Bush/Cheney regime, no matter how many wars you surge, no matter how many lies you tell us, no matter how many Americans you kill overseas, no matter how much you give away to major corporations.
All these self-absorbed ”decent people” would rather let you privatize every single school system into a class based, for-profit, public/private processing plant for Walmart workers, prison guards, and soldiers just so long as their kids still have a shot at the American dream.
They would rather let you ship off their neighbors kids to fight in the Global Free Market Wars, to kick in the front doors of poor people all across the world, rather than have to admit to themselves they were fooled in 2008.
They would rather turn a blind eye to their evicted, foreclosed-on neighbors and a deaf ear to their unemployed, hungry friends rather than face the grim reality of the country you are helping to destroy Mr. President, just so long as they still have their homes and their jobs.
They would rather stand there with insipid, self-satisfied smiles plastered on their faces hoping a tv camera pans over them rather than let the world know we Americans understand whats going on and are united in our opposition to it.
Yes Mr. President, there are still some people out there who will love it when you treat them like shit, when you lie through your teeth, piss on the constitution, and continue committing crimes against humanity for the sake of a few ultra-wealthy business owners and bankers.
And then, there are those who won’t.
And the cruel irony here, Mr. President, is you know damn well which ones are actually the ”sane”, “intelligent”, and “decent” ones, now don’t you?

Well, the plant is still there, but the jobs are gone–1400 of them.
City leaders are scrambling, though, and this neck of the woods is considered the most ‘business-friendly’ in the country right now. Yesterday, they had a sort of lunch thing for the local business leaders, with an out-of-town speaker. It wasn’t Obama, or W, or Clinton–but it might as well have been. The theme, near as I could tell from TV coverage, ran something like this: ‘It’s a Global Economy now. No turning back. Find a way to lend a hand if you want to survive.’
There were even a couple of camo-clad military there, sitting at a table front and center, for whatever reason.
(Speaking of camo-clad, and ‘for whatever reason’–last couple weeks there’s been a couple bomb scares in the city. Bomb squads with bomb dogs were out blocking off blocks of traffic, looking for some bombs. Turns out, what they found was a piece of electronics left behind by a room mate in one of the scares. In the other one, all they could find was a “funny smell” in somebody’s car, after a domestic dispute.)
Meanwhile, the plant is standing empty. My guess, though, is that after that lunch, and considering our business-friendly climate, some other corporate packer will move in there and hire those jobs back at a considerably lower rate of pay.
All this I get a100 miles away, from any one of three of their local TV stations, fronted by local news anchors with a rah-rah attitude.
I’ll tell you this: Anyone reading this who finds themself with a couple hours to kill might like to do it with the movie ’12 Angry Men’. It’s an oldie, but a goodie (in my eyes, anyway. It was up for some Oscars back in it’s day, too–including Best Picture). It puts me in mind of what willyloman is trying to do with American Everyman.

Remember, Obama said it right after he was elected… he said, the economy will be such that one job will not be enough to get by on……you’ll have to have two jobs and even that might not be enough……
he forgot to add that if things went his way, you won’t find even one job……… unless you are willing to lend a helping hand to the corporate giants who need quiet slaves who believe in wars and global control….
yeah, Roy… a new ‘master’ will take control and expect obedient hard workers to take the jobs… or workers will be shipped in….

Scott, while I agree with you on content, please let’s not denigrate rocks! Most have been around a lot longer than all the dumbshits of humanity… so I would say “dumber than a sack of shit.” We should just call them “excrementals”. Did you ever watch the movie Dogma, when the Excremental made is presence hatched out of a toilet in a bar? I mean… the term “dumbshits” has true relevancy when it comes to the vast majority of the US population. This is why I’ve always lived at fringe places and never had a lot of friends. But rocks speak to me in a language most can’t understand. I honor them in my work by putting their best face forward! They are the least pretentious of earth’s creatures. They’ve taken all nature can dish out, and their character has been shaped by millenniums of existence. Remember, all things great and small, animate or not, have their own resonant frequency. Unfortunately most folks EEG’s are near flatlined from too much tv.
Point taken. Not too mention, most rocks are vastly more interesting and colorful too boot. Plus the average rock is more useful even if used only as a paperweight or a skipping stone.
