Gaza, Afghanistan and International Law

Interview with Richard Falk, Professor Emeritus of International Law at Princeton University and author of “Crimes of War: Iraq” and “The Costs of War: International Law, the UN, and World Order after Iraq” recorded October 17, 2009 in Seattle.

Falk discusses Israel’s attack on Gaza in detail and he also mentions something that I have written about several times; the fact that as good as the Goldstone report is, it fails to address the underlying cause for the war and that is that even after Hamas had practically reduced rocket attacks against Israel to ZERO in the months that led up to the conflict, Israel deliberately provoked them by attacking Gaza for no reason while Americans were busy with the elections of Nov. 4th.  The Goldstone report chooses not to address the very important “cause’ of the attacks, saying only that “Israel has a right to defend itself”.  Well, of course Israel has a right to defend itself, but it doesn’t have a right to deliberately provoke another nation under the cover of Obama’s election, then stand back and play the victim when that nation DEFENDS ITSELF.
