bbc-protestfrom al Jazeera English

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has said it is open to reconsidering its earlier decision not to telecast a charity appeal for funds for Palestinians in Gaza.

The chief operating officer of the BBC, under fire for its refusal to air the appeal, said a reversal of the decision was possible if another request to air the appeal was made.

And what happened at President Bush’s very first National Security Council meeting is one of O’Neill’s most startling revelations.  “From the very beginning, there was a conviction, that Saddam Hussein was a bad person and that he needed to go,” says O’Neill, who adds that going after Saddam was topic “A” 10 days after the inauguration – eight months before Sept. 11.

From the very first instance, it was about Iraq. It was about what we can do to change this regime,” says Suskind. “Day one, these things were laid and sealed.”

It was all about finding a way to do it. That was the tone of it. The president saying ‘Go find me a way to do this,’” says O’Neill. … And that came up at this first meeting, says O’Neill, who adds that the discussion of Iraq continued at the next National Security Council meeting two days later.

Tony Benn “If you wont broadcast the Gaza appeal then I will myself”

For those of you who don’t know, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is still ongoing. Relief agencies are trying to help out, and one put together an advertisement that the BBC refused to run last week. Israel doesn’t want money pouring in to help the people of Gaza right now because they are not finished mopping up in Gaza. They don’t want the suffering eased at all, or at least, what little help the people there get, Israel wants to be in complete control of it. Tony Benn is talking about the BBCs decision not to air the ad.
