United States Blocks UN Security Council Statement Calling for Cease-fire In Gaza

15 members of the UN Security Council, the same body that Colin Powell went before and lied to in order to drum up support for the Iraq War, voted to release a strong statement urging both sides of the current Gaza conflict to cease aggressive behavior, and the sole dissenting voice, was that of the United States.  As a Permanent member of the Security Council, the United States’ “Nay” vote served as a Veto, and the measure was killed.  China, France, Russia, the UK and Ireland, Austria, Mexico, Turkey, Uganda, Croatia, Libya, Vietnam…. the world stands on the side of peace… and we and Israel stand alone, looking to crush the impoverished and starved people of illegally occupied Gaza.

The United States late Saturday blocked approval of a U.N. Security Council statement calling for an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and southern Israel and expressing concern at the escalation of violence between Israel and Hamas. MSNBC

It is a sad day in American history…. a sad day indeed.

  1. The president-elect has chosen as his right-hand-man an Israeli citizen, who served the Israeli army in the ‘91 crisis, the son of an Israeli who was a member of the zionist terrorist organisation the IRGUN/ETZEL (’Stern Gang’ – King David Hotel ‘48), and is named in honour of a family friend who was a member of zionist terrorist organisation the LEHI (UN Mediator Folke Bernadotte ‘48). Their ‘Iron Wall’ is now called the ‘fence’. As he says himself ‘I am proud of my heritage’, and as we heard Dad say “Obviously, he will influence BO to be pro-Israel” – even though he himself says his influence is not needed to “orientate BO’s policy toward Israel”. (All from Wikipedia) ‘Plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose’

  2. Though I do not disagree with your comment, Obama has little to do at this point with the topic at hand; our representative at the UN. And even though everything you say is true (and should leave people asking “do we want a Chief of Staff who will not repudiate the actions of his terrorist father?”) we also should not forget that Obama went and prostrated himself on the alter of AIPAC, during the election… long before he picked Emanuel as his Chief of Staff.
It is my belief that Obama would have been taking this very same stance with or without Rahm and that the statement made by his father was simply an attempt by the man to endear himself and his son to the Likud Party and the Zionists.

  3. The following blogger and American patriot has a very well-reasoned and insightful analysis in Israeli-Palestinian-US history that I think that many of you would find interesting.

The fact is that according to the latest Rasmussen Poll, over 41% of Americans agree with us that the U.S. is on the wrong course by supporting Israel in its illegal murderous actions.

However, you won’t find this fact reflected in the US Press of actions of the US government.

Israel is playing a dangerous game whereby everyone that is not them is treated as either a pawn or prey.

It’s sad because there are Jews that reject Israel’s racism and Apartheid system.

However, in true Nazi fashion, Israel recently created an office of propaganda designed to squash mention of its crimes and Jewish opposition to them.

So that, unlike with the Lebanese war, you won’t see images of Israeli children being encouraged to sign bombs that will be dropped on other children.

The question is will Americans rise up in time to demand a government whose actions actually reflect them instead of a bloodthirsty, doomsday Rapture obsessed minority?

Or will we let that minority led us to an Armageddon that will be far from the end result that these delusional people think will happen?

You make a good point. Sometimes I get too angry with Obama and the congress for not standing up for human rights in Palestine, when in fact, the root of the problem is really with AIPAC. Now that said, there are those who are able to stand up to this political action committee and continue to get re-elected… namely Dennis Kucinich. But I guess he is the exception. I think we should find AIPAC’s office (K-Street?) and deliver the next shipment of shoes there. Thanks for the insightful comment and the links.

Willy, that’s the funniest thing I’ve heard in days! May we eventually have success and justice for all.

“Israel recently created an office of propaganda ” – you could find on youtube and sooooooo many aother places that Hamas and Hizbolla say that theywant to kill every non muslim. and they wont stop until every Jew is in the sea. is that israels propaganda?? you have live videos that hamas is shooting missles from hospitals, schools and using kids as human shields- another israels propaganda? could you explain, PLEASE?

i’ve been to israel and i was shocked how modern, high tech they are! (gorgeous girls :) _)Tel aviv reminds lot of NY just with newer skyscrapers and a beautiful beach. the people there are very nice. it is not an israeli propagenda. just are literaly, fighting for thier lives

  7. “what would you do? 8 YEAR and israel has done NOTHING. not once retaliated. ”

This is from B’Tselem, the Israeli Human Rights Organization in Palestine. These statistics are considered the most accurate by both Palestinians and Israeli officials. They are not disputed.

Since the start of the Second Intifada, 2000-2008

Palestinians killed by Israeli security forces in the occupied territories – 4781
Israeli civilians killed by Palestinians in occupied territories and Israel – 727
Palestinian minors killed by Israeli security forces – 955
Israeli minors killed by Palestinians – 123

“the tiny country (smaller than the state of NY )is the only place they have. now, where could they leave to?”

Every year the United Nations takes a vote for a Two State solution based on the borders of the June 1967 accord. And every year, almost every country in the world votes to accept this legal solution, except Israel and the United States. The Palestinians do not want to drive Israelis into the sea. they have offered peace many times and made concessions for peace many times. Even Hamas has recently agreed to the Two State solution based on the June 1967 boundaries. The problem is; Israel does not want to give up the land they have taken with their settlements. Even Israeli Prime ministers consider the settlements illegal. No one wants Israel to not exist. At least I don’t and the Palestinians that I have talked to don’t. They want a two state solution. Even Hamas wants a two state solution. But they want their lands and their homes that are legally theirs as well.

The recent attack on the UN school that killed 40 people was originally reported to have happened because Hamas was firing rockets from there. There was even a report of some “witnesses” who said that. That story came from the Israeli military, who now admits, that it didn’t happen.

The Israeli military admitted that no rockets came from that school.

The stories about the “human shields” is a justification for civilian casualties. It is a means to control public outrage over the killing of civilians. There are no videos of Palestinians running down the street with rockets in one hand and babies in the other. Palestinians are people just like you and me. They are not animals. Were some asshole to do that, use children to shield themselves from Israeli attack, his own people would kill him. Just like we would if our people did it.

I want you to know that what you are reflecting here to me is not uncommon for people to believe. It is what you are taught. Israel is in a precarious situation; and there are bad things that happen on both sides. You have been taught, like many here in the states, that there is only one side of this struggle that is good and the other side is bad…

It’s time you came to understand that life isn’t that black and white. it just isn’t that easy. Right now, the people of Gaza are starving and they are being killed at a ratio of 760 to 10. And these numbers aren’t included in the numbers above…

Israel is a beautiful place, from what I understand. filled with beautiful people. But the Palestinian people are also beautiful, and both are suffering now. We cannot find peace unless we uncover truth. And we must be willing to search for that truth no matter what we find.

I hope this helps to answer some questions. No one here hates Israel or the Jewish people. I do not like some of the actions that are being caused by some right-wing politicians in Israel right now. That is all. And I post this stuff in hopes that other people will begin to ask their own questions, come to their own conclusions.

If there is anything else I can help with, please let me know.
