**UPDATE*** read: The Auto Industry Bailout is NOT A Red VS Blue Divide. It’s Worse Than That
Perhaps it is just bad timing, or perhaps it foreshadows even more union busting to come, but just as the new Obama/Clintonista regime is taking shape, there is a new PR campaign underway to eviscerate one of the strongest labor unions in the U.S. And unfortunately it looks like they are going to win the approval of our “progressive” left simply because Obama is part of the sales team.
The endgame of the War on the Middle Class is being played out even before Clinton’s NAFTA team sets foot in the White House as they are covertly targeting the United Auto Workers of America. And unfortunately for our union brothers, they are up against the combined power of the Bush administration, the incoming Obama administration, the congressional DLC and New Democrat Council, “Blue Dog” democrats, and the corporate media at large (not to mention the “all-Obama-all-the-time” minions of the “progressive” left).
Yet another example of how our government (both “viable” parties) and their accomplices in the corporate Mainstream media are deliberately working against the best interests of the American people.
There is a 25 billion dollar auto industry bailout plan right now being pushed by congressional DLC type leaders and the Obama transition team. This money is supposedly going to be part of the original Paulson TARP 700 billion dollar plan, but that is still up for “negotiation”. I would bet my bottom dollar that it ends up coming from somewhere else. The corrupt bankers want their payday too.
Though the plan has not yet been released, some details have been leaking out from Nancy Pelosi and others, including President-Elect Obama himself, who’s 60 Minutes interview/Infomercial on the subject will be aired later today.
By leaking the plan details, the congressional democrats are working the media angle to make it appear they are “standing up” to the Bush administration.
In fact, this is just part of their bi-partisan sales-pitch of a plan that will ultimately crush the UAW and put our auto-workers on par with those in Ford’s and GM’s plants located in third-world nations.
Opposing the democrat’s efforts, in order to give the Pelosi/Obama plan the appearance of being “for the people”, is the Bush White House. President Bush is playing the role of spoiler here, pretending to be against the bailout (since when has Bush EVER been against ANYTHING that benefits big business by handing over taxpayer dollars to them without real conditions?) until certain stipulations are met. They are apparently going to demand that cars are built with higher MPG standards and set limits on CEO compensation.
But like the Paulson Bailout Bill, we have heard all of this before, and yet the financial CEO’s are just handing out our cash like it was Christmas. The restrictions are a joke. The legal wording of the TARP was deliberately constructed with loop-holes so that these outrageous compensation packages could still be dished out. The same thing will happen with this plan. Bet on it.
Of course GM and Ford are going to design and build cars with better MPG estimates. That is what the market demands right now. But they won’t be in the 50mpg range, and they won’t stop making the big gas guzzlers, their friends at Exxon wouldn’t like that very much. But it is obvious that better gas mileage is a huge selling point right now all across the world, and so it would be stupid of them to ignore that.
So what does that leave in the “negotiation” process?
“So my hope is that over the course of the next week, between the White House and Congress, the discussions are shaped around providing assistance but making sure that that assistance is conditioned on labor, management, suppliers, lenders, all of the stakeholders coming together with a plan – what does a sustainable U.S. auto industry look like?” Barack Obama.
What does a sustainable auto industry “look like”? That’s a good question.
I know exactly what that “sustainable auto industry” looks like and so do they because its model already exists at Ford’s Camacari Assembly Plant in rural Brazil.
(The following link will take you to a recent PR “news” story that attempts to sell this process of production to the American people. You can expect to see clips of this video all over the MSM in the next week or so and possibly even tonight on the 60 Minutes piece. You will want to go view this video. It lays it out quite clearly.)
The Camacari Plant is billed as Ford’s most advanced plant and it is certainly one of its most profitable. Located near a sea-port that is also owned by Ford (takes care of the dock-workers union), this plant is capable of assembling 5 different models, all on the same production line. They also have inside the plant, and designed along with the layout of the assembly line, are the manufacturing of various parts of the vehicles or the “suppliers” that Obama is talking about in his quote. The “suppliers” fabricate their products right beside the auto-workers, thus eliminating shipping and handling of those parts (Teamsters).
This plant began operations in 2001 and has been a developing efficiency model ever since. Like the Chili “experiment” was for the Milton Free-Market savage capitalism plan in 1973, Camacari is an operating design experiment for undercutting the living wage of the workers. A place where Ford was able to tweak and mold the auto-plant of the next generation in order to minimize expense and maximize profit. And much of that profit comes from undercutting the workers themselves.
It is important to note the year the plant. Ford went down there, outsourcing yet another major plant when American workers were losing their jobs, during the “pro-free-trade” pro-globalization Clinton administration. Ford was probably given massive tax incentives to do it as well.
So here is the deal, boys and girls. Ford wants to open a new plant in the US in the profitable Camacari mold. Were they to do this with the economy being what it is, they will get a lot of positive free press from the MSM. But what the media won’t tell you is that the plant itself is designed to undercut several different trade unions, and reduce the quality of life for the workers there.
Now here is the brilliance of it; Ford will get the U.S. taxpayer to pay for the construction of their plant (like they did under the Clinton administration) AND they will get congress to hobble the United Auto Workers Union at the same time. And the whole thing will be blessed by the new Obama administration, so therefore it will be touted by the populist “progressives” as a wonderful thing because they just can’t get enough of “all things Obama”.
This is the ultimate goal of “progressives” like Pelosi (and the Clintonistas that Obama is stuffing his cabinet with) when they say things like:
“A restructured, competitive American automobile industry will continue to play a crucial role in our national economy and in the global marketplace,” Nancy Pelosi.
The “global market place” means we get paid too much for Ford to keep its profit margins as high as they want. It’s just that simple. Ford isn’t in trouble because of the UAW or because of the Teamsters or because of the Dock Workers. Ford is in trouble because they struck a deal with the oil companies to keep producing gas guzzlers even when it became clear we didn’t want them.
If you are like my father, you will probably support this deal. There are many reasons the MSm and the Obama administration will cite that you should. But in the end, what are we talking about?
We are talking about the taxpayers paying for the building of a plant that will be owned by a private company and forcing workers there to settle for less.
All because the economy is in the toilet, because of their efforts to make the US “more competitive on the global market”.
The democratic leadership knows this, the Obama team knows this, the White House knows this, they all know it and they are all counting on the fact that you will, once again, lend your blind-faith, unwavering support to anything Obama signs off on.
You have to know better people. This is a War on the Middle Class and they are targeting one of our strongest unions and using one of our heroes and our money to do it. Don’t let it stand. Don’t let them tie labor union concessions into this deal. Stand with the UAW. Stand with the Teamsters. We have to take a stand. We must not let them turn the Midwest into a third-world nation, all in the name of corporate profits and investor dividends.

How do we stop it? I certainly stand for labor unions. A greatly reduced paid labor force will also mean more homes given back to the bankers….
I think we best be getting on with the promise of making America energy independent.Iran just asked OPEC to reduce production by yet another 1.5 million barrels per day. This past year and the record gas prices played a huge part in our economic meltdown and seriously damaged our society. We keep planning to spend BILLIONS on bailouts and stimulus plans.Bail us out of our dependence on foreign oil. Make electric plug in car technology more affordable. It cost the equivalent of 60 cents a gallon to drive an electric plug in car. The electric could be generated from wind or solar. Get with it! Utilize free sources such as wind and solar. Stop throwing away money on things that don’t work. Invest in America and it’s energy independence. Create cheap clean energy, create millions of badly needed green collar jobs. Put America back to work. It is a win-win situation. We have to become more poractive citizens, educate ourselves and demand our elected officials move this country forward into the era of energy independence. Jeff Wilson’s new book The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence NOW outlines a plan for America to wean itself off oil. We need a plan and we need it now! http://www.themanhattanprojectof2009.com
This is absolutely absurd. What do you think is worse, “union busting,” or the ENTIRE COMPANY GOING UNDER!!! I think the Unions can go take a walk if they are going to be so damn irrational. By the way, I think we know who is wrong, you are. It is the democrats that won because majority rules. Sorry, you are wrong and the crushing victory for Obama proved you are wrong. Stop being cry babies and stop being so damn greedy.
You really need to start thinking for yourself. (“majority rules” doesn’t really work everytime in an electorial college system, in case you didn’t know that.)
The UAW gave serveral concessions in their 2007 contract negociations to help the struggling auto companies. Remember that? It was in the news.
Organized labor is key to our middle class surviving this economic downturn. Without it, we just become slaves to what ever the company wants to pay. Collective barganing is important, even if you don’t understand that.
The “crushing victory for Obama” proved only one thing, that people didn’t want Mccain. How many of your friends told you they were going to ‘vote for the lesser evil”? Not a stunning vote of confidence if you ask me, was it?
You keep blindly following that party line, and some of us will keep track of ALL politicians, regardless of their party.
It’s too bad more republicans didn’t do that 8 years ago, we might not be in this mess now.
Let’s hope we don’t have to say the same thing about you zealot democrats 8 years from today.
Think for yourself; you’ll find it’s quite exciting sometimes. having an original thought sometimes is refreshing.
(what has ‘greedy” got to do with ANYTHING either of us said? What, do you just throw words out there with no clue as to the conversation?)
Accountability seems to be the problem.
The boss can hold workers accountable. You either do the job or you don’t get paid.
But government officials get paid whether or not they do the job they were elected to do. We have no way to hold them accountable, so they are not actually our representatives. They represent themselves, their biggest donors, or whoever they wish.
Unions gave workers the possibility of having some leverage with employers prior to globalization. But you can’t threaten a strike when your job can be easily outsourced.
Obama voters are going to be very disappointed, but since the Republican party controls the mainstream media and the Democratic party control the better-funded alternative media sites, there won’t be many places where dissent will be allowed.
Can we as a nation learn that if the political parties select the candidates, private corporations secretly count the votes, and “elected” officials cannot be held accountable, our “vote” is not a voice in government and that by legitimizing a government that does not represent our interests, we are criminalizing ourselves? And can we learn this before the last living-wage job is outsourced and the dollar collapses completely?
Hey Diamond, where have you been for the past eight years? The majority hasn’t ruled for at least ten years; as far as Obama being elected, like Willyloman said, many blindly voted for Obama because they did not want a republican in. I talked to a cousin who voted for Obama and she was saying the Republicans are going to blame the bailout on Obama. I told her ‘but Obama voted for the bailout’… she was shocked, she didn’t even know that. Many voted for a democrat…. blindly. So Obama didn’t win the majority of the votes… he ‘fell’ into a victory brought on by the corporate bosses who have bought and paid for Obama. Kucinich was the man for this country.
Unions helped make our working majority (union or not) safter; they helped raise the hourly wage rate; along with Ralph Nader; You probably don’t work yet; just wait, you’ll have your turn at $7.00 a hour. (I hope)
Ok guys … my Internet subscription is up and I can’t afford another so unless one of you wants to hire me for something spectacular I guess this will have to be good bye … I wish you all well I really do … Scott Allen It’s been fun give em hell for me … willy keep up the good work … Jan your the best

Sorry buddy. I wish I could help, but I can’t find work either and I too am about to get shut down myself.
It’s been fun. You keep up the good fight. call me or email me when you can.
Do they not have internet access at the public library where you are from? Usually that is free of charge and they give you like 30 minutes per shot or so.
If not that, I know there are dial-up type serivices that you can get for free. They are slow, i know, but you should look them up before the turn you off.
Anyway, do what you can, I will email you my contact info. Good luck with the work search.
This is ridicuous! You guys act like there is no middle class without unions. While all around people are doing quite well without a union. If you have valuable skills or knowledge, you can make a living. If you don’t, you shouldn’t! Many of you are as bad as the CEO’s getting paid ridiculous money well above you’re added value.
Johnathan Douglas (JackDanielsDouglas)…. nooooo. Send Willyloman your address… in case one of us hit the lottery or something and we can send a rescue package, or postcards and let you know how ornery Scott HUmphrey has gotten or maybe notes on cables or just a hello…. OH… it is not going to be the same without you here, Douglas…. keep writting… you are so good at it. We’ll visit your ‘site’ everyday and keep it active for you with comments…. you never know, you might come roaring back.
Are you still here? So sorry…. wish I could do something now….damm …
Willyloman is right… most libraries have internet and computers for users; some do not allow email but you can visit blogs… you can still get in. And use your own password and everything… for your site.. I think. NOt sure about that but you can visit ADS and Willy and knock on Scott Humphrey’s door.
Stay warm…. let us hear from you. Please….. let us know how to reach you….
kahill… you are speaking like a true non reader…. if you are paid well for your skills, then you owe your thanks to thousands who went before you … those who fought for higer wages through unions or through congress… and thanks to Ralph Nader and others like him. Your wages came through hard work by others…. now, just sit back and relax and let it slip through your fingers ..
I greive the loss of JD. He is an economic casality. There are probably a million more like him. But he was special. He was in the unique position to know the truth and he had the special quality to know the importance to speak out and challange the lie’s. In this pursuit, he was indifigitible.
We may not see another like him here.
That is all I can say. There is more that needs to be said, im sure. but I must appeal to other’s here, to come forth. For, what I feel in my heart and soul, at this minute, I can’t put into the approaprate words
Scott Allen, you talk as if J. Douglas is not ‘here’ anymore. He still has his special quality. HE will get back on the net…. even if we aren’t here, he is young and he’ll be back with even more experiences to add to his insight.
You yourself are unique…. and have a way of really saying what is on your mind… when he gets to the library, he’ll have a laugh at us…. sitting here crying over missing him.
Willyloman might hear from him.
Cheer up Scott….. go bake another cake and pile on the chocolate…..
Come on… tell me about your model… the one you are working on now…..
I tell you… this internet world is a lonely place anyway….
we need a real chat blog where a person can talk about their world and how they are doing ….. but you can’t because the net is also very open…. I ani’t telling my secrets to the big ears out there…. well.. I don’t have any secrets anyway… darn it…. well, yeah I do…. he he
NO… not telling.
OK… haven’t heard any more from J. Douglas… guess his net is ‘off’… darn money grabbing nets.
going to bed… nite all….
I don’t think this financial crises was invented so big business could get rid of union contracts. It is just a natural place to look when you are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy…
I hope I didn’t leave the impression that the finncial crisis was created for the sole purpose union busting. I believe it was created for the billion dollar bailout. But if you read N. Klein “Shock Doctrine” you will see that this is exactly the kind of exploitation that she talks about in that book. No, they didn’t do it just for this, but, they did wreck the economy so that there would be multiple opportunities that would arise from it. Like the 700 billion bailout, Bernake’s 2 trillion dollar loans, and yes, restructuring of several key contracts, one of which I think is the UAW.
I agree with Willyloman, if the workers need jobs and help, busting the union is no way to do it… that only puts more profit into the corporations….. you want to bust some wages? Then get the top management to take a 40% drop in pay… that would probably keep the budget in line.
I am currently in litigation with a wrongful death against Ford Motor Company, due to the defective cruise Control switch that killed my son. Ford appears to have the money to hire attorneys to fight in court not only me ,but many more grieving, distraught families. It is hard enough for the little guy to fight these corporate giants already without our tax dollars paying for their attorneys.
This company has committed civil and criminal acts of premeditated murder! The executive who signed off on the production of this faulty switch, The executive who signed off on continuing to use the switch even after it was shown to catch fire, The CEO who signed off on the idea to recall in stages as to not scare off the consumer is at fault. They are ruthless criminals that have NO regard for the public. So NO Deny them the money!!! Like they deny killing people. Decisions have consequences some in the form of human lives, and some decisions affect the pockets.
If you have a story about a cruise control fire and would like to have your story heard in court please contact me. Deliciadawn@yahoo.com Thank you Paytons Mom
So sorry about your son, Delicia. I hope you win….

[...] For you old timers…and others who need to learn from history I have seen it on here about chpater 11, CF, etc, etc. and it got me thinking of the past. Those of you who remember when Mason-Dixon, Transcon, Bagget and Floyd & Beasley were Union LTL carriers. After the Jimmy Carter screwing Act of 1980 went into effect, they all shut down their LTL operations and continued running other divisions in their corporations. Doomsday Theory only….but they can (with or without) a pay concession shut down Yellow, Roadway and Hollland and still move other companies around to still make business work to a smaller scaled down operations like the ones I mention above. YRC China gets it to the docks…..Glen Moore hauls it to the YRC Logistic centers to be stripped and delivered, or Glenn Moore can deliver in route without any contract stopping them from doing it. New Penn can still be operated on its own in a defined area of the NE, or it too can be closed under reorganization. Lots of ways to do it without us, and to finally bust the greatest Union in this country. We would be falling under the "global Economy trap"….something to thing about. Here is a link to a story that was sent to me and it really got me to thinking as to what ALL this crap is about, and what is gong on with this economy….read it real close. Coprorate welfare….or the final plan for Union busting?…..KK GM/Ford Bailout Deal is Union Busting Disguised as Corporate Welfare American Everyman [...]
Kind of hard for me to believe this….Since…. UAW has assisted in taking my Teamster job away and replaced it with a foreign company named Voith that is now paying me HALF my wages and that UAW is representing! Figure that one out!?!?
FightingTeamster, this article indicates to me that Ford is the bad guy here. They love the unions fighting, I am sure of it. The implication in this article is that corporate giants, like Ford Motor Company, are behind all the union busting.
